that being said........... does anyone knows if the actual launch of the 60D have pushed the price of 50D down? have anyone enquired the price of the 50D recently?

Finding a 50D for sale in a retail shop would be next to impossible. The camera has been discontinued. In fact, on Canon's Hong Kong web site the 50D is listed as a discontinued product. Strangely, on the Singapore website it is still shown along side the 60D and others.... but so is the 40D!

The 50D is no longer being manufactured. The used market is probably your best bet now. Expect to pay around $1050 for a used 50D (depending on condition).

check the BnS section, nope it's not being pushed down, why? read this whole thread + 60D spec to know why :D, buying a new local warranty one is only "possible" at harvey norman or courts or best denki that is if they have any old stock left and trust me they dun come cheap :D

I have a bad impression of Canon Singapore's website. On their EOS accessories page, they used the wrong image for their remote RC-1.
:thumbsd:

Fortunately for them, their products are still good....
...so far.

I was at funan centre looking for the 60d and saw the 50d on display in at least 3 shops. And that's not including the big retailers like Harvey Norman and challenger. Didn't ask the price though

Thanks for sharing that information! Can you tell us when you saw these 50D's? What shops had them for sale? :)

Anyone know where i can still buy this cam on instalment yet the price is lower compared to best denki etc?

FYI not all 39 AF points point are cross type while canon 60D is all cross type... 7D is 19 cross type...

Seriously... most of us use AF at the center bah... does it seriously matters if u have 100 AF points?

Exactly. You have 39 AF points no doubt, but your cross type is all in the centre, which i believe is less spread out than the 60D 9 points. And besides, if AF point 38 is only 0.2mm beside AF point 39, whats the difference? machiam using same point.

Compare AF points for what really? Its just a trivial matter if you are not shooting action...

I doubt you guys know what is cross type and non cross type b4 the launch of mark iv, whr the manufacturer make the big hoohah, to tell the world that their focusing system has the most number cross type sensor (is it really better? check yourself online, i do not want to comment on the performance). Before this, does it stop everyone from taking good photos?
Cross type doesn't make the line type focusing sensor useless. It works! no matter whr it is located, and shooting still object, it's more than enough.

More is defitenitely a bonus! useful or not it's up to individual. To me, it's good to have, eventhough 90% of the time, center point is sufficient, but it is there when i need it 10% of the time.

i am kinda confused right now.... should i buy 550D with 18-135 lens or the 60D with 18-200 lens?? i am more tempted to buy 60D as it comes with 18-200 lens... so guys have any suggestions for me??

Cross-type sensor had been around long before 1DMKIV.

Anyway, IMHO, although 90% of time one super good centre AF point is enough, but sometime you need the other AF point, such as:
1) you are tracking a moving object (eg. birds flight shot) when you can't always get the centre AF point on the moving object, or
2) you are using a very fast lens wide-open when a bit of shifting might cause the desire focus area to go out of focus... focus-lock-recompose method doesn't work effectively here, so you need to use other AF point to focus after compose the photo.

For general shooting, Canon 550D is more than enough, unless you need the flip LCD screen. Of course, if your budget allow, get the Canon 60D.

Have a nice day.

Does one buy a camera based on the lens it comes with? Not a good strategy, no matter how i look at it.

Please consider what you use the camera for, how you use it. That should determine the camera model to get. Then consider the lens thereafter.

I saw them about 2 days ago. Can't remember exactly, but I think SLR revolution and the small shop opp challanger mini on 4th/5th floor(can't remember) still selling 50d. I think asia computer store also selling it but didn't exactly take note because I was looking out for 60d

Yes, but ppl talk about how many in total, not how many cross type available :).

Yes, my point here is line type can do the job well too :), because it seems like a lot of ppl think that additional line type point is useless

Some of the reputable shops listed on clubsnap do offer a 4-5% credit card installment charge on top of the cash price they are selling at. With the extra charge, it will still be cheaper than the RRP of best denki

Thanks for the info. If anyone else notices these 50D's still up for sale, please take note of the prices so that we can compare to the 60D.

could i just ask is 60D 550D and 7D compatible with EF-S mount??

what do you mean by crop models? so am i right to say the above three models is compatible with every canon lens??

Yes, you can take it that all Canon lenses are acceptable by these camera bodies (of course excluding the very very old FD mount lenses used in the days of film and manual focusing).

The full-frame sensor bodies like 5D MkII and 1D will NOT be able to mount EF-S lenses, only accepting EF lenses.

To understand why EF and EF-S lenses exist, you can probably read more on it in other threads/ websites, but here's an article you can start with:
