Canon 5D mk3 in Spring

I call 61 AF pts BS.

This comes from a reliable source in another forum, someone who has actually handled the camera:
"AF is great, better than the current camera. But if you need the best, go 1Dx."

More info:
"Sorry can't give specific details in viewfinder blackout time and shutter lag, all I can tell you is I held a camera that felt like a 7D but it was no 7D . The mirror box was different and the move of the mirror had more 'slap' than the 7D. This was right after I signed a paper that told me I was not allowed to give specs of the camera I held..."

This makes 7.5 fps believable. Regarding pixel count, I am inclined to go along Thom Hogan's thinking and believe Canon will stay below 25 MP.

Wow, this is sounding better all the time! All along, Canon users have been wanting a full frame 7D. Could the next 5D iteration be the solution we've all been waiting for?! :dunno:

I feel Canon can have this in a 3D, and a 5D mkIII with slower frame rate, etc... and both can still be hot seller..........

I feel professional grade cam is bought by Pro, and that segment is smaller.... while prosumer have a wider % than the pro category...

So if the prosumer range, they have 2 FF for cam, 1 each for Studio & Sports, and both at diff price, it will help them make more profits..... ie. moving 1D & 1Ds to prosumer range and let them have a dilemma.... while the Pro get the 1DX....

There might be good reason for such logic. I would guess something along that line too as its possibly something which they found over the years with the 1Ds and 1D sales. :think:That they sell far, far more affordable FF cameras than they do with the Pro series ones. And that there was an unexploited market for a highly capable, high zoots model that sits just below the 1D and they had lost many customers when Nikon came in with the d700.

And they may add in a top shelf studio camera somewhat similar to the Leica S2. With the full 1Dx capabilities, an even larger format of possible 40x40mm or even 45x45mm, topped out at over 50mp. But a sub 4fps framerate. And a new set of lenses.

My guess ?? ?

Studio Camera : Studio Dx (??? or whatever SG$12000+)
Top End FF : 1Dx (SG$7000++)
2nd Tier : 3DX ( or whatever they call it) with 70% of the 1Dx capabilities, size and 65%-75% of its price ( which makes it just under SG$4500-5000 )
Mass market FF: 5Dx , megapixel camera, maybe 39mp mainly for people who want and have use for such a camera. Limited AF capabilities like the 5D has always been. (SG$3500-4000)
Top tier APS-C : 7Dx (SG$2500-3000)
Advanced APS-C: 70D (SG$1500-2000)
Entry APS-C : 700D (SG$1200-1500)
Entry DSLR: 1200D (SG$900-1200)

Of course, these are just pure conjunctures and have no basis other than the news that's been brewing over the months. ;p But when you look at it, it covers every possible price segment that a DSLR might be pegged in on!

I was thinking of Canon adding a proper high end range finder to compete with Leica.... EVIL....

Canon have good development in their sensor technology, & I think if they want to go larger format, should not be a big issue..... Maybe from the hints given to design smaller cam... what if they are aiming to develop a Medium format that can take EF lens and is small, portable and compact??? Doubt it is possible to use EF lens for MM format....

I would be happy with a slow 5D at sub $3000....

hope to see more in the Digic5 processor, especially given innovative challenges from ricoh and fujifilm sensors

It looks as though the 5D Mk3 will NOT be announced on February 7th. However, it is likely that it will be announced shortly after that. I hope that is it sooner than later.

I went to a big retailer today (don't want to name in case they tio tai ji), I was asking them about 5D Mark II. He secretly tell me don't get it, just wait a while.. cos 5D Mk III coming soon but dunno date yet. Been told by Canon. So that was the reason why they DO NOT carry 5D Mark II anymore because they scared can't sell and price drop, so if I really want 5D Mk II they have to order one set specifically for me.

I was like.. wow.. dunno can believe or not.

I think if you can wait a while, you could wait and see...

I think it could be a new camera.... based on CR, they say New High End DSLR.... so I wondering... if it is a 5D mkIII.... why not title it as 5DmkIII coming??? But the title is a New High End DSLR....

Could it be the mystical return of the 3D????

*UPDATE* New High-End DSLR Later in February [CR3] « Canon Rumors

IDK, I think 5D Mark II is fine for my needs, I don't need those top of the line 1D series. So the price drop for 5D Mark II is good news for me :D

If so, either way, you should consider waiting a while.... but if it is not a 5D replacement, then, price might not drop....

1Ds and 1D merged to 1Dx. I think 5D and 7D merged to be 6Dx. XXD becomes APS-H. XXXD remains APS-C while XXXXD becomes mirrorless.

when you said 'here', does it mean the date it'll be released in SG or is it date of the first official release somewhere else?

Do you have any insider info? Are you suggesting the price will be rather steep? :bsmilie: 22 MP/7.5 fps/61 AF pts or 30 MP/6 fps/19 AF pts?

I guess my dream of owning a cheap FF Rebel-like camera will never be fulfilled within the Canon camp for the next few years... Sigh...

Actually I am quite weary of those rumors. Been expecting a 5Diii for so long liao. Also the 24-70L and 35L. Nothing heard yet. Wait till I sianz went to buy myself a 5Dii and 35L. Till now still nothing heard also. "Wait till flower die liao...." :P

we are expecting the camera to be available. thats what we were informed by canon. advised to wait for it instead of purchasing the 1dx for the studio by canon. we are issued with a camera each. so buying like 10 1Dx for our dept doesn't make much sense.

The date now proposed for the 5D Mk3/X announcement is Feb. 28. Here are the latest rumoured specs:

  • 22 mp
  • 61pt AF with DIGIC 4
  • 6.9 FPS
  • DIGIC 5 (Doesn’t say DIGIC 5+)
  • Announcement February 28
  • + with 3 lens
  • Available April $2700
