Canon 5D Mk II - So good??

I think that is because your 450D did a preflash. I am very sure the 5D Mk2 can focus perfectly fine in low light. And of course, f4 is NOT FAST.

no pre-flash used. i tested with pop up flash close and without flash gun and both camera using the same lens. so the lens shd not be an issue.

perhaps you can share the image of the item the 5D2 was having difficulting locking focus on, find it quite hard to believe the 450d AF is better than the 5D2 haha....because i owned the 450D before, and the 5D2 definitely gave me much higher % keepers and in focus shots compared to the 450d..or maybe cuz i have been using better and better lens with the full frame camera hmmm....

here is the image of the object that 5D2 cant focus it....

i am making a wild guess but i am guessing the larger af point on the 450D managed to get a better lock on the contrast than the smaller af point on the 5d2. i believe they are the same size actually but with the crop view in the vf, they become bigger and if you focus on the seat, the contrast between the back and the bottom of the seat can provide enough contrast for the 450D to lock on. if you are using the 5d2, u might be focusing on the bottom or the back and honestly, there isnt much of a contrast there.

Zun bo... without hunting for the exact location of that bench, I can guaran-damn-tee you that any camera won't have any problem focusing on that. Focus on the edge of the seat lor....

Well, I believed that's the main purpose as a hobby :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

It's just a matter of time one will upgrade. But one should know the need to upgrade & not upgrade blindly.

Of course new model is always better than old one.

That's right. I myself upgraded from 400D to 40D lol. And I bought the 40D a month before 50D was released. And I know I'm gonna get a 5dm2 anytime next year lol.

Btw, I posted the comment just a little over a week ago. And now both Nikon and Canon confirmed they will release the D3s and 1d mkIV, which will have ISO of 102,400. Has the megapixel war been replaced with ISO war? I wonder what's next. Maybe can capture 20 fps? :bsmilie::think:

I've been a user of 450D, and current using 5D2.

I agree that in low light condition with low contrast, 5D2 struggles to AF while 450D might be able to focus after a while. But that's because 5D2 has very precise focusing capability. The difference between the results of AF between a xxx/xxD and 5D2 is the sharpness. The focus assist from the Speedlite really helps big time in low light situations.

That said, I'll still say, if you need a fast action camera, go for a xxD or 1D3. If controlled environment and quality, 5D2 or 1Ds3. :)

So, if I want to take F1 pics, my 40D will do a better job than a 5dm2? I've never touched a full frame camera before

in my case, i brought both my 50D and 5D2 to the F1, and 5D2 did much better than my 50D in AF locking and tracking. ended up using the 5D2 most of the time. >90% 5D2.

the shooter beside me had a 5D2 and a 1Dm3. He ended up using the 5D2 most of the time over the 1D3 as well from what i noticed.

I think this says alot about the focusing ability of the 5D2. I would tend to think user error in your case. As others have said, did u focus on the edges of the seat or just bam at the centre of the seat?

my F1 thread for reference http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=580276

I noticed that no one is selling any used 5D Mark II. Is that camera such a keeper no one is selling a used one so long after its release??

5D MKII is definitely a keeper, among my colleagues here we had atleast 6 5D2 out of 10-12 Canon users I know in the office. Nobody is talking about selling it anytime soon. ;)

Hi, If you know how to use your camera 5DM2 at your finger tips with 100% knowledge of the functions, then 5DM2 is so good. Any way, a new firmware to upgrade the video will be out early half 2010.

People still do a lot of manual prefocus.

7D erratic focusing problem was resolved by removing the main battery and clock battery for few minutes. Wonder if it will fix the missed focus issue discussed for 5D MK-II

Back on track, for anyone thinking that the 5D3 will come soon, think again. The 5D2 will not get phased out so easily - the proof of it comes in the form of major video firmware updates out even after 1 year of release.

the next 5D will probably be another 1-2 years time. its only coming to 1 yr next month. still a long way to start day dreaming and having wet dreams so soon for the gear wankers.
