Canon 5D Mk II - So good??

Can anyone give a good guess when the 5D Mark III is coming? Next July?

Photokina 2010 or later I would think. Need some time for Canon to make some profits out of the (I bet overpriced again) 1Ds4 first =p

No matter how much you see and read, it is very different from what you experience when using one for a period of time. The sound, the video, the weight, the iso, the crop and battery life. All I can say is, it is a convenient camera at a high price.

For a FF body, it would be normally take 2 years or more, the 1DS is next!

Yes 5DMK II is good,

but CANON 7D is a like an upgrade of the 5D MK II without a Full Frame Sensor.

oh believe me, it will come faster and faster!
Won't be surprised if it comes next June. But I will still be buying my 5D II next week XD.

I am going to buy a 5D2 after my A Levels next year regardless of whether a 5D3 is going to come out or not. Won't expect that to be released any time before 2011 looking at the 5D timeline.

To me as long as you use your camera often & is happy with it's IQ, it's worth whatever camera u intend to buy.

If you have the cash, I believed a FF camera is the ultimate upgrade for a hobbist.

You say this now because the 5dm2 is an excellent camera AT THE MOMENT. But in 2 yrs' time, maybe canon 5dm3 comes out, and it delivers even much better performance and additional very useful features lol. Maybe the image quality at ISO 25,600 is crisper than 5dm2 at 6,400 :bsmilie::bsmilie: And some clubsnap members will post pics they take with their 5dm3, and you will think, "I don't want this camera. I NEED this camera" lol :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

the fact is i seriously doubt most of us are really "up there" to even justify the full potential of the 5D2.

i think the movement in BnS will in no way explain whether the 5D2 is VERY GOOD or BAD.. doesn't make much sense as we all know people don't buy a FF body for fun.

Well, I believed that's the main purpose as a hobby :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

It's just a matter of time one will upgrade. But one should know the need to upgrade & not upgrade blindly.

Of course new model is always better than old one.

Good discussions, gentlemen.
Which brings me to ask myself this all-important question:
How many of us who own the 5DMkII are hobbyist (albeit a serious one for sure), and how many are professional photographers who earn a great majority of their livings from their work?

(I, for one, am a hobbyist. And I do not claim otherwise.)

Wow, I am finding it quite difficult to spend money on 5D Mark II and u are getting one at your age. Lucky!!!

I truely agree with you. We all have to experience it personally to really know it.

I must say, I agree with you. This is a bunch of very matured photographers talking here.

Not student very rich but have rich dad ;)

Unfortunately I paid for about 3/4 of my first camera... If I had a rich dad I'd have just gotten the 5D2

Doesn't matter how good the 5D3 is. 5D2 is a good camera and still will be for the next few years. Look at the 5D. The only reason for me to get a 5D3 would be that it has more cross-type AF points

Maybe not, but most of us here can talk with the best of them!

I can think of several other reasons why there aren't many for sale.

[1] It's still fairly new. It's less than a year old, and still within warranty. I don't know about you but I don't buy my cameras with the intention of moving on within a year. And I suspect most people don't either.
[2] It hasn't been replaced. Probably the single biggest reason why there aren't many for sale. So there's no obvious direct replacement path, nor any reason to.
[3] There hasn't been a newer better camera either, like a 1Ds mk XVI. Which means if someone made the decision to buy the 5D mk II over the 1Ds mk III in the last 10-11 months, then there is no reason whatsoever to get that now, unless they clearly made a very bad decision in the first instance.
[4] I would love to have this same conversation in a few years, comparing the 5D mk XXXIV and the 1Ds mk XXVII.

Repeat after me. The Canon Ee Oh Es One Dee Mark Twenty Seven. Now available in Wide Body (so Canon can fit the XXVII in gold plated text) :bsmilie:

So many people have said similar things... myself included. :D
