i am also interested in 450d and 17-50 tamron
for the tamron lens, is it readily available in the shops?

I bought a 450D solely because it is smaller and lighter than the 40D. I have used my friend's 40D before, and I can honestly say that I cannot really see any real difference in performance and picture quality.

But then, I'm only a newbie so I am probably not pushing either camera to their limits. I mostly like to take candid shots and the 450D has fulfilled my every need thus far. I am 110% happy with it and won't trade it for a 40D.

Unless you pixel peep, or you shoot to print, you can hardly tell the difference, assuming that your technique is correct

Hi all,

Bought my Canon 450D with kit from my friend's shop last Sat.

I must say it is very user friendly especially people like me, first timer to use SLR.

Yup, i have used a 40D in more than a few occassions, IQ & noise control wise i would say it is the same. It is the lens that determine the quality of the images to a much higher extend.

Personally i got the 450D because its extremely "powerpacked" for its size, you will be hard pressed to find anything better out there in such a small package, and despite being 12mpix it does not skimp out in noise control & IQ. Extremely happy with it.

If I get the Tamron 17-50, are the kit lens useful? Reviews said that pictures are a bit soft but not sure if it could be of any use other than a backup.

Anyone else to vote for either:
1) 450D with Tamron 17-50 f2.8, or
2) 40D with 18-55 IS f3.5-5.6 (kit lens)

Either of the above would cost me less than S$1,800.

Many have already said. It depends on your priorities. If you don't know your own priorities, don't expect a vote from numerous users (all with different priorities and purposes) to help you on your way. You need to realise what YOU are buying the camera primarily for.

$20 $30 differences is okay for me, maybe going to John if not wrong they got free bag included and we can take our time. Tamron lens need to test which I dunno how.

John 3:16 has some of the best customer service around, and that's not limited only to sales enquiries. Their after-purchase service is equally good. Unlike some other shops that will not care about you once you put the money down, they are always friendly and helpful. And yes, you can probably take your time there, more so than at other shops.

Why still get the kit lens if the Tamron covers the same range? :dunno:

for john 3:16, just avoid calling the shop and dont email all together. just call the handphone number listed. thumbs up to on site service. no gimmicks no push tactics. only trusty advice.

there was this amg mo whom bought his camera a mth ago, den he came back to complain that there's no warrenty card. John's dudes attended to him politely and in earnest. offered to search their ranks when the ang mo brought the camera back. (even gave the amg mo a copy of the useless canon book upon claim that he did not receive it. no qns asked)

Hehehe, i just bought my 2nd dSLR setup, the Canon EOS 450D with the 50mm f1.8 MK2 Lens. Switched from Nikon actually. Really happy with it but it's charging now, can't wait for tonight then can play with it, haha :)

Hi i am thinking of getting the canon 450d too. There are some pretty good reviews about it and i went down to have a look at it too. Priced from 1200-1499.

Maybe you would like to know one of the major issues i have heard was the battery life. Takes from about 200-300 shots due to it's larger screen and live view but other than that, I think it's fine. Esp the noise reduction for high ISO

Oh ya someone up there commented about John 3:16. It's a good place except that sometimes you could get things at a price a little cheaper. (30-50?) at some other places. But it's still considered cheap so yep GOOD :)

huh.. i thought they are using a higher capapcity battery for 450D? is it because the users have liveview permanently on?

I've just gotten my 450D from John 3:16 a few days back. My previous camera was a Fujifilm S5000 5 years ago and with this new DSLR, I've enjoyed every moment with it. Hope to learn more from all you guys out there. Cheers
