Hi all

How is the 450D high ISO performance?

Can post some pics?

For those who are familiar with battery grips, how many shots roughtly it can take with 6 AA batteries? Say for Eneloop batteries or perhaps standard alkaline.

good question. i'm not too sure but it should definitely be lower than the NB-2LH. this forum http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=584940&forum_id=37 says that it only gives 30 shots with 6AA alkalines. i'm doubtful about that, but am quite certain its less than the lithium ones (:

EDIT: this ebay seller has posted the life span of the respective batts in the grip

# Approximate Battery Life (at +20º/0ºC):
# NB-2LH (no flash): 1200/900 shots
# NB-2LH (50% flash): 800/700 shots
# AA batteries (no flash): 300/0 shots
# AA batteries (50% flash): 220/0 shots

i make no representation about the accuracy of these figures.

but anyway, 3rd party batts are so cheap. why would u want to use AAs?

Thanks. I was just curious as battery grips supports AA batteries but there's no mention as to how many shots it could endure.

I have checked with CSC and perhaps Steve forums may be right. They mentioned it's hard to tell but it ranges between 50-60 shots (without flash). ;(

Why would you want to use AA batteries when just one extra Li-ion cell will last you a good 500-600 shots?

Canon does state that AA battery usage on their battery grip is for "take you home", emergency usage.

yah i don't bother. i just buy Phottix brand batts off ebay. $8 per piece incl shipping. the life is not too bad! i've got 2 originals, 2x $5 ebay batts which suck and 2x phottix $8 batts which are quite good! the phottix ones are as good as eastgear batts

Wah got link? PM me

I am following my friend to Tokyo and get a camera there but we'll be arriving late at night. So I only have time to buy a new camera in the morning the next day. Therefore to make full use of photoshooting opportunities, I need to get batteries here first, fully charged.

Any comments on megapower batteries? Selling for S$25.

Am i new user for DSLR and got myself 450D =) How do you "change" the focus on the subject? They have these 9 points on the screen but they sort of "auto focus" the wrong subject. Do i have to change to Manual or? Thanks for helping a noob!

Oh! i am loving my new camera! I have the kit lens and a EF50 but i been using EF50 like forever!

mayb change to spot focusing instead of area focusing?

yes u can to change your focusing to manual mode and choose tho focusing point yourself

anyone has any recommendations for camera bag? i got my 450D recently and i'm looking for a bag to store the camera w kit lens along with another lens which i plan to get some time in the future, and maybe a book or two.

Hi Everyone,

I am new to DSLR and just bought an EOS 450D as my first DSLR. :D Happy with it and having fun with it though I have a minor problem. Seems to me that when i shoot anything red, I do not get the correct tone. For example if u see the attached pictures, when i shoot the object in RAW + L, the red tone appears "pink-ish". This is so when i view the image in my pc and also when i use the lcd screen on my camera. When i shoot in RAW format only, the image is still "pink-ish" when viewed on the camera lcd but when i use DPP to view it, i get the correct tone.

Anyone of you guys could help enlighten me on this problem? I am very very new to photography and dslr so I hope to learn from all of you.

Hello,

I am having the same problem (firmware 1.0.4).

This is not a White Balance problem: it is a raw to jpeg conversion issue; it happens with all jpegs converted in camera, it also happens with the raw preview (the pictures red channels appera pinkish on the rear LCD display).

The problem does not appear when using the RAW to JPEG conversion on computer

This is the JPEG produced *in camera* (resized); this is how it appeared on the camera rear LCD (it is also how the raw was appearing on the rear LCD):

This is the how the RAW was converted by the Canon 450D mac software using "as shot settings" (resized); this is not how it appeared on the camera rear LCD:

Woah that is bad...sent to Canon for checks yet?

At first I thought it might be WB fine tuning, but then that would affect all tones, not just red.

hi guys

ive been using de 350D for a yr plus, and was thinking its about time to upgrade with either 40D or 450D.

i consider myself still a noob as i so i was wondering if the 450D will suit me better.
however 40D have better specs esp on its auto focus and with $400 price gap, is probably gd for the mid term.

i think the problem with weight dun rly bother me but im more concern on the cross body compatibility - batteries and accessories are easily available for 40D unlike 450D.

Also the storage is different. 450D uses SDHC right, isnt CF supposedly a more popular format due to its historically lower price/capacity ratio, better read/write performance, and the availability of larger capacities? Why a change?

Canon made the change from CF to SD in 450D to make it easier for people to switch from PnS (point-n-shoot) cameras to DLSR.

If I were you, I would go for 40D since you've already experienced 350D before. 450D won't bring you much new experience, just better specs/features. Best to know is to try it out at the Canon showroom in Vivo City. Both are great cameras but I feel 40D is in another class of its own. In Live View mode, 40D auto focus is 1.5x - 2x faster compared to 450D.

hey guys care to share your jpeg settings for city walkabout?

Sorry but i think that the battery grips are to give you more performance? Not to last more shots from what i know sorry new to this it's just what i read from the rest :)
