Canon 17-55

You can also check out the hood from dealextreme, just that it will take a loooong time (around 3 weeks) for it to arrive. So I ordered the hood for my 15-85 about a month before I got my lens lol.

Depending on what lens bro
My 18-135 I am using 3rd party. So far so good until my 17-55 got stuck on my camera. Haha

lol...yea i guess it depends on the model :)

Um, just wondering, is there any other way of getting a 100% crop besides using DPP?

Yes, you can use any photo editing software. But for the best image quality, start with a RAW file, which means you must use DPP or Adobe Camera RAW.

lol...thx bro..yea i accidentally found out when using mf for fireworks...i oso note that if u apply a little pressure when turning it then it wont slip past infinity..cheers

Haha yeah, lets just enjoy our new investment and focus on taking good pics! :)

Haha, for my 15-85 hood dealextreme was selling it at around S$5, while the 3rd party hoods I saw in shops was selling at $20+++, so I guess I got a good deal :p
Btw, I saw the price of the original hood at DDE, was $70! Where did you get your original hood from? TK or SLRR? Sorry I forgot bro :D

What size of SD card u all use? Thinking of use raw soon. 8gb with movie and picture not enough for me

hehe
i yet to try out F2.8. went over to the showroom, they do not have F2.8... :(
tried the F4IS. was really in love with it. the weight is just nice. ard the same weight as 17-55.
but in low light, u need the wide open.
when u want to have better bokeh, F2.8 will give a better 1
when u want a better anti flare lens, F2.8 mkII deals it better...

too many pro against 1 con, which is the weight... :X
the price diff is ard 1k right?

the weight of the 70-200/f4IS is just nice... can shoot with it for a couple hours (I did whale-watching) before it starts to get heavy. anything heavier is really too much. i'm glad I didn't get the f/2.8 version. if I find that I really want the bokeh and low-light in future, maybe I'll pair my f4IS with a 135L.

Ha. I didn't use the RAW format until about 2 years into my journey on photography. It isn't terribly useful unless you have a good proficiency in photo editing.

I usually put a 16GB card inside my camera and carry an 8GB spare card. I can also "cannibalize" the 4GB card inside my wife's S95 if there is a need.

Shooting RAW has two immense advantage, which are the ability to change the white balance and change exposure up to 2 stops without affecting image quality. These are really helpful for those fleeting moments where there is simply no time to change WB or change to a faster lens.

Given how cheap flash memory cards are these days, there is really no excuse not to spend $60 for a good 16GB card after spending $2,000+ on camera and lenses. But I would cap the capacity per card at 16GB (some may prefer 8GB) to limit the risk of losing precious photos when a card is lost or corrupted. And of course, make backups!

How many raw u can shoot on 16gb?
Class 10? I think I will get 32gb, which should be able to cover at least 600 pictures then after transfer then can slowly del away the unwanted pictures

Hi Bro,

I have the impression that you dont delete the files in your card and overtime accumulate lots of cards. Is that right?

I was thinking of getting an external harddisk to store the files so I use only 1 card and 1 backup. Does it sounds right?

hi all, personally i will not recommend getting a 32gb card and shoot until its brim.

i will prefer spreading my eggs into different baskets, ie 4 x 8gb/2 x 16gb. in this way, if the card does fail, i won't lose everything that i have.

currently i am using 3 x 8gb and 1 x 16gb and i rotate them regularly to ensure equal amount of usage for all cards.

no bro
during the end of day, i will transfer the picture to my computer then format the card

I used a 16gb on my 550D shooting RAW, averages around 570 shots
So if you decide to get a 32gb, you should be able to shoot at least 1k RAW shots

Of course I delete the files in my SD cards after copying them to my computer. I only have a 16GB card and a 8GB card. Together they can barely last 4 days even if I review and delete photos in my hotel room every night (when traveling without a laptop). I try my best to back up to external hard disk as soon as possible, preferably before I format the SD card.

You'll probably also need another hard disk to store all these RAW files after awhile..
Prices of hard disk aren't that cheap now though.. Can wait for the price to fall back to normal level (if it ever does) first before buying..
