I called CSC and they mentioned that it is due to the front element which is the glass thus will creep.
Yeah, but I think it damages the AF motor. Somebody also told me to try not to turn the focusing ring in AF mode even if it has FTM, cos it will wear out the AF motor eventually
the focus ring can turn all round.
there isn't any issue with your lens
The ability of the zoom ring going beyond infinity is normal.
Lens creep in the 17-55 is also normal. I also have a creepy 17-55 but there's nothing creepy about it's IQ!
Hi Kongfu bro, actually before i sold the 17-55 away, i was turning the ring even after infinity round and round, there is no issue. LOL
But it is good to play safe. Haha.. try not to keep turning lo, thou there is no issue i suppose. *finger cross*![]()
Hi Bro,
Thanks! It definitely is reassuring....Of course wouldn't want to mingle with it unecessarily...Btw why did you sell it? U don't like it?
NewbietoPro said:I sold it to get sigma 17-50 LOL.
Kinda dumb but the image quality is almost the same with sigma sharper in the middle at f2.8.
However F4 onwards, they are similar and somehow sigma is kinda sharper than 17-55.
Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me, but i do see some difference (if not it's time to change a pair of glasses, LOL)
Lastly it is due to the lens creep which zoom down from 17mm which makes me a little uncomfortable thus i change to sigma 17-50 at a lower cost with a zoom lock at 17mm ( i dun like ppl knocking onto my lens or camera!! haha, weird ya? Well, i am kinda fussy in that way. haha).
Until canon change the material used for 17-55 and with a zoom lock, i should be hanging onto my sigma for the time being.
Furthermore, the build quality of sigma is kinda better.
Time for a canon 17-55 IS USM Mark II.. LOL
I am saving for a 70-200 F4L IS now
Y not 70-200 F2.8 mark 2?

I prefer a 70-200 F4L IS + 135L
I am thinking of F2.8. But now no money. Just bought 17-55

Haha. I shld be getting 70-200 f4l with some primes for light travel. Depending on the lens announcement which is coming up soon. Hope to see a better 50mmf1.4 n better 35f2. L primes are too exp!
Btw, can someone teach me how to do a 100% crop?![]()
...100% crop basically means viewing the picture at 100% and taking the crop of it. The cropped file mustn't be resized in any form.
100% crop must be done on a photo that hasn't been resized. This is because resizing degrades image quality, and different image editing programs use different algorithms to resize. Thus the resulting image is not useful for close examination or comparison with other pictures, usually the same scene taken with a different lens or a different camera. Also, the resolution of modern digital cameras far exceed that of monitor screens. Thus 100% crops are necessary so that a part of the photo can fit on a normal monitor screen (most modern 22"-24" widescreen monitors are 1680*1050 or 1920*1080) and be used for closer examination or comparison with other 100% crops.Hi Bro,
Er 1 more question. When viewing the file can or should the file already be resize or we got to look at a file that hasn't been resize?

To make a 100% crop with Canon DPP, simply open the photo after you copy it from the SD card, and use the Trimming/Angle Adjustment Tool to choose the area you want to crop out. Next Process the photo without selecting the Resize checkbox. The resulting picture will be a 100% crop. If you open it in in DPP and choose 100% zoom, things should appear the same size and proportion compared to your original photo zoomed to 100%. Except now it covers a smaller area. It's like cutting out a part of a photo print.
