Canon 17-55

Ya la. Kao. I study till my head wanna burst liao. Then gf still kb.. Lol. Jialat ttm

buy her a branded bag. LOL

wanted to get this lens but no one wants to buy my 24-70 *sob sob*

Hey errz, how's life? she got a LV bag Liao lo. Still buy for her == a body found in bedok reservoir lol.

Anyway errz, canon 7D with sigma 17-50 OS hsm works perfectly like 7D with 17-55. Cheaper and longer warranty alternative if u dun mind 3rd party lens :)

Attentive to all clubsnap bros, b+w xs-pro got promo, I think. Cos I just got one 77mm at 90bucks. :)

How about uploading a few samples of shots taken with the new lens at different aperture values and good lighting condition to let us determine whether is is performing optimally?

Hi Bro,

Below 2 shots taken and please advise me if you think they're sharp.

Hi Bros,

Another question. I realise that the rubber barrel of the focusing ring can still be turn even after reaching infinity.

Is this normal??

Kongfu, yes it is normal, the 17 55 offers full time manual focusing. If you look at the mechanism of ring usm, you will understand why the focusing ring will always be able to turn no matter what.

Could you do a 100% crop of your photos?

As a comparision, here is a photo taken with my 17-55 and straight out of a 450D:

50mm, F/2.8, 1/30s handheld, ISO-400

100% Crop:

Do note that I turned up my in cam sharpness to be relatively high too.

[EDIT] PFFT, I just realised how much detail I lose in both of my above photos by uploading it, and based on that, I believe your 17-55 is sharp enough since the image quality must have dropped a lot for you once you uploaded as well.

Hi Bro,

I dont mean the Full Time manual focuing.. what i mean is when i turn the auto focusing to infinity i can still turn the rubber barrel meaning the focusing actually stop at infinity but the rubber can still be turn which means its not glued to the focusing ring...

Er sorry bro but how do I do a 100% crop? I've always wonder what is it when ppl say 100% crop sorry ah I very new :P

I can also turn the focusing ring even after reaching infinity or macro on my 15-85, but its harder to turn (ie more resistance). Should be normal, but I don't recommend doing it. I think it damages the AF motor (correct me if I am wrong).

Hi Bro,

I think its not glued to the focusing ring thats why we're able to turn

Yeah, but I think it damages the AF motor. Somebody also told me to try not to turn the focusing ring in AF mode even if it has FTM, cos it will wear out the AF motor eventually

haha, then you might as well say that using AF over time will wer out the motor XD when you turn the aF ring, the motor is not directly connected to the ring, so it's ok. as to whether it will directly resist the motor, i doubt it but it might be possible. other than that dont worry. anyhow the AF on 17-55 wont spoil so easiy =D we're talking about 17-55 right?

Hmm, the guy that told me that was from a camera shop, but obviously I didn't really believe him haha. If thats the case why even have FTM in the first place? Erm, I'm actually talking about the 15-85 but doesnt matter :)

no worries, lens creep happens as your zoom ring loosen due to long usage... and of course due to gravity... haha! nothing you will will prevent it from occurring it again!

after using 17-55 for over a year, the only complain I have is from 17mm, to zoom to tele, it is a bit tighter, and the zoom creep... but the images is still.... WoW....

Just feel that Canon short changed us cos it is such a expensive lens, but the build quality is a few grade below L.....

the focus ring can turn all round. :)
there isn't any issue with your lens

when it's new, it's not tight from 17-55?

The ability of the zoom ring going beyond infinity is normal.

Lens creep in the 17-55 is also normal. I also have a creepy 17-55 but there's nothing creepy about it's IQ!

It is tight when new.... now, only from 17mm.... if after 17mm, it will creep... should be the weight of the glasses...
