CANON 15 - 85mm and 18 - 135mm

just enable it in the menu, under peripheral illumin correct
If I'm not mistaken this feature only available for DigicIV and applicable to JPG format only, not RAW

Hi guys

I'm kinda new here and to dslr photography so pls pardon my noob-ness.
I've the 500D for about a year plus now and I've been thinking about getting this lens recently. (After reading this thread I think I might go for it afterall.)

I just have one more question which I hope somebody can help answer:
There's this feature "peripheral illumination" in the 500D which can help to minimise the vignetting issue, right?
Does it have to be turn on manually in the camera? Or is it already incorporated into the system by default?

Well by default it should be turned on already but just to double check go to the menu settings and check it for yourself. It does help in reducing the vignetting.

Thanks for the prompt reply. :)

errr anyone has a summary of the past 11 pages with regard to whether the 15-85 is better than the 18-135? anw why are there so few sellers of the 15-85???? i cant find anyone selling within the past few months and why is the price so much more than both the 18-135 and the 17-85???

15-85 is better than > 17-85 > 18-135.
Hence, you pay more for 15-85 and people less likely to sell when they are happy.

ohhhhhhh k thx! nice short and sharp ;) juz to throw one more into the mix, how does it compare to a 24-105L? read some reviews but they nvr definitively say which one is better.. but still 1k for 15-85 seems abit high... canon rrp 15-85 ($1.3k) 17-85 ($1.1k) yet 15-85 resale price 1k vs 17-85 resale price $500

i believe "L" should be better. But depends on what you need, really....

If you have seen the short clip about Mr Lee Sow Lim on the History Channel (cable), you would understand the it's not about getting the perfect lens.

i'm using the 15-85mm currently, and also own 18-135.. gotten it coz i like the wider end of 15mm.. and pics are relatively sharp throughout the focal length..=)

Upgraded from 18-55 > 17-85 > 15-85 > 24-105, was trying out all sort of lens before i found what i need.;)

15-85 is a great lens, from wide to mid-range. Very good for walk-about lens. Since you have 55-250. This seem to be a better choice for you.
IQ is very good and with 15mm, you still able to take decent 'size' photo within tight space.

24-105 have slightly longer reach, I choose this cause i plan to get a fix f2.8 for the wider range.

ohhh ok thx ;) actually i was planning to switch to 70-200 f4L IS... the 28-300 is too ex and almost non existant in the BnS market, the 100-400 too

I tot this thread died a long time ago. Using 15-85. Not comparable to primes like 35 f1.4 or even the 50 f1.4. Owns my kit lens upside down inside out tho. From build quality, to sharpness, colour and contrast, autofocus, image stabiliser and range

sounds good but abit too ex... i m now in a dilema, i went to 2 review website. 1 says the 17-85 owns the 135 (i saw the sample ISO too) the other has a video review saying its good but when i read their full review, turns out the geo distortion is worst than 55 kit lens!? :o anyone got hands on?

i own a 15-85 and compared to 17-85 belonging to my colleague using my 7D, the results pretty much different. Hence the price.
