17-55 is a great lens.
I concur wholeheartedly but the price is .....

Both have steep price without red rubberband...I concur wholeheartedly but the price is .....
Heard from a friend of mine that the 15-85 is usm kit (with 7d) is available today in some stores? true?
guys
the lab shots of the 15~85 is out
http://www.the-digital-picture.com/...p=455&CameraComp=474&SampleComp=0&FLI=5&API=0
to me, i think the IQ is amazing
glad that canon at least DID NOT create an expensive yet crap lens
now lets compare it with a pretty renown EFS lens, the 17~55

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Great IQ! The only real issue is the PRICE!

i agree with you
great focal length
great IQ
wider than most typical lens
5.6X zoom
USM
i think it is the best walk-around lens by canon to date
:heart::heart::thumbsup::thumbsup:
17-55 is a better walkaround IMO purely because of the constant aperture.
yes, found a store @ SL quoted me $3,260 for the kit

for a walk around lens, personally i think 17~55 has too short a focal length
my definition of a good walk around lens is something which has MODERATE amount of focal length..
then why not the 18~200 you might ask? those walk around lens suffers too much degradation of IQ due to its extreme focal range
hence personally
15~85 > 17~55 , as a walk around
its a 5.6X vs 3.2X zoom
15~85 being wider, and also more tele
but of cux 17~55 win 15~85 in terms of aperture, hence it is faster and more usable in low light...
each lens has its pro and cons.. and it boils down to preference..
still.. the 15~85 is really a good lens as shown in the above comparison...
i think canon knows that the IQ of the 15~85 is good
hence its hefty price
...hmmm now i wonder why they purposely made the 18~135 so horrible
Then it is approximately $800 for the lens itself. Still cheaper than the 17-55mm.![]()
Hi, we share the same sentiment but between the 2 lens' pricing of 1.1k v.s 1.5k, which would you choose? This is the headache I am facing now.... I like scenery shots thus I appreciate the extra wide at 15mm and also generally, a tele of 85mm is also good to have but is the 15-85mm consider a good upgrade from my current kit lens? (given that the 17-85mm has been out for quite some time and I have never consider it at all!)
btw guys
i went to MS color today
the 7D kit lens with 15~85 is out
the guy told me that the 15~85 lens itself will be available roughly in 2 week's time or less
