so, what's the class of rolex? what's the class of these western brands you want to talk about? what's considered an equal? what kind of a ruler are you using for your measure?

My ruler is peasant like me cannot afford to buy :bsmilie:

PS3, Giant bicycle etc etc and among many many others.
Its just basically different kind of marketing strategy. the whole biggest and richest and most profitable car companies are either Honda, Toyota or General motors. but they have a different market with Ferrari and others.

Well.... those high end products....maybe really got a real differentiating quality?? in the amount of quality that normal products dun have?? Higher quality, better technologies??

I think a Ferrari's engine should be much much much better quality technically than a Toyota right?? Cannot be pure marketing right??

Nintendo, PSP considered as good brands?

Typically, these high-end brands hail from developed countries. Only when there is enough of these rich and famous, does it make sense to have these brands and their corresponding marketing strategy.

Games, mass-market cars, consumer electronics, etc... do not usually fall under this category. These things are supposed to be sold to many people and the margin is not that great.

For example, Vertu is trying to be one of these brands... but their phone only has so-so features and most of us won't be impressed. However, they have a super concierge service that comes with owning the phone... and a price tag to match. It's a status symbol.

So, it is very natural that these brands usually come from the US, developed European countries and Japan.

You don't get these brands from less developed Europeans countries either... like Greece, Cyprus, Serbia, Czech, Slovak Republic, etc... So, naturally, you don't get such brands in most part of Asia.

I'm sure, given time, Singapore will start coming up with these brands... but it takes quite a lot of time. We have only just become a developed country a few years ago.

Cars like Ferrari.

If you know Ferrari history. Their quality was really patchy throughout the 70s and 80s. Perhaps it has changed. Their car bodies used to be made in an old shed and were prone to rust.

Some new cars were delivered with multiple faults new from the factory - Like wiring not connected up.

those high end brand usually have a very long history.... like what "since 18xx" under the brand .... so after a long time high end brands emerge?

I think no need so long. A lot of fashion brands are not that long dated. For example, Kenzo, Issey Miyake, Versace... these designers were not even alive during the 18xx. :)

The company just needs to spend a lot of time and money to ensure that they make top-of-the-line stuff. Rich people are very very picky, and they are very hard to please. These things must be perfect... else they will face reputational risk.

And don't forget... Ferrari is owned by Fiat, a "non-glamorous" brand. Lamborghini is owned by Volkswagen, also a "non-glamorous" brand.
