Cactus V5 Flash Triggers Mini Review (w/ pictures)

Yes...Assuming you have 7 cactus V5's..

Cheers

Hi guys,
i find it quite troublesome to attach the V5 to the flash using the PC Sync cord. If I leave it hanging, it might drop off (already a couple of times). How do you guy do it? Possible and safe to slot the flash into the hot shoe but using the PC Sync to trigger? Then what flash mount do you normally use? I mean when you guys put it on the lightstand..

Use velcro. If u hang for sure will drop. Im using frios i mount on lightstand

Ok. Velcro-ing soon. How about your flash stand? I can't seem to understand which one boss... (Very newbie).

My light stands are the older manfrotto nano stands think they have been replaced with a new model. U should know better what.. U attended the lightenupandshoot workshop hehehe

i mean the flash holder boss...

I just screw the light stand tip into the V5 then mount the flash onto the hot shoe...(I have removable tips for my light stands so I have the ones with a thread on them)...But velcro also works....

Cheers

I also make my own reflectors which I mount onto the flash directly (very light weight) so I do not need to pack an umbrella....

Cheers

Got my Cactus V5 days ago.
Surprisingly it works with my Nissin DI622 mark 1, but the sync speed does not go more than 1/100 sec (banding appears in some of the pics at 1/100 as well).
A Micnova flash trigger I used have the same problem for this flash too. Was wondering is it the limitation of the flash? I cannot do a test as it's the only flash i have.

Am planning to get a few Yongnnuo's YN-560 flashes, will it have a better sync speed with the trigger? :dunno:

Btw, i am using a 5D2

I'm syncing 1/200 on a 5D with 580EXII.

Nissin 622 mk 1 known to have issues with any wireless trigger. So it's not the cactus but the flash.

YN560s are golden for strobist work. Go for it.

Why issit so dear ShaneKua? faster sync speed?

As powerful as a nissin 866 but with 2sec recycle time vs 6 secs.

Even the 580ex2 is 2.5 secs

And costs just $120.

Plus a CP-E4 Battery pack, recycling time takes less than 1s !

Okay, i got my 2x YN560 today, and it's working amazingly with the Cactus V5.
Spam 10 continuous shot with 1/200 shutter speed, all turn out bright and clear with no banding at all. :D
Only downsides is that, it doesn't seem to have focus assist beam, and the pilot button sucks. The sound indicator is also kind of irritating and interrupts the continuous burst of the flash, but since it can be disabled, I am fine with it.

Like what bro Shane has said, YN560 is definitely golden for it's price. :bsmilie:
