Compatibility between Cactus V5 and Nikon flash
After thorough investigation on the compatibility between Cactus V5 and Nikon flashes, we come to the conclusion that the problem comes from assembly process, not design fault. It seems that the screws on a small batch of V5 transceiver were fastened too tight which makes the level of hotshoe and the surrounding plastic housing uneven. This unevenness between plastic housing and metal hotshoe won’t affect the performance of most flash models in market, except Nikon SB-28, SB-80DX, SB-600 and SB-700. That’s why some Nikon flashes do not fire when using with the V5. Please note only a small portion of V5 with fastened screws has this problem. Majority of V5 still work with Nikon flashes as described.
To prevent similar problem from happening again, we will use a new hotshoe plate in our next production. The new batch with the new hotshoe will be available in early June. If you want to use V5 with Nikon SB-28, SB-80DX, SB-600 and SB-700, you may hold your order till June. For those who experienced problem with V5 on those flash models, we will ship you the new hotshoe as soon as we have it, hopefully by the end of May, so you can replace the existing hotshoe. The only thing you need to do is to unscrew the hotshoe on your V5 and screw the new hotshoe back. By doing so, your V5 should work with all Nikon flashes without problem.

If I have three V5s and placed a slave on the hotshoe of the Tx-mode V5, will it fire/sync along with the other two V5s with external slaves?
I don't really get your question, you place a slave on the hotshoe of the TX mode V5 for what?

I think u mean u wanna put one flash on the V5 that is on the camera right. the one that is transmitting.

Anyone here can advise if it is better to purchase the remote shutter cable on gadget infinity or there are better/cheaper alternative elsewhere (ebay/artworkfoto?)
I'm likely to purchase 3-4 sets of V5 Duo by this weekend and would like to know if it is better I purchase the remote shutter cable together.

Get pc sync cables if u use them. Cos they issue 1 per duo only. I just got the cable from them save the hassle everything come 1 shot
