Hi all,

I would like to find out if anyone got your experiences buying Canon lenses from Orient Photo, at Sim Lim Square? Or any advice on what to look out for, especially in getting Canon L lenses? Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Henry

erm.

1. pay in hard cash to get the best price..
2. make sure lens is in working order eg. IS working, AF works, no back/front focus etc (and sharp enough for your requirement?)
3. bring your own camera to test..

Hahaha that's fast! Anyway thanks for the advice. But are they reliable for their goods?

how reliable you want them to be? if you made a search on them, they are generally rated quite ok..
here is 1 recent thread: http://forum.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=286930

my own experience with them was gd anyway, bought a L from them about 3-4mths back, still working fine, v.sharp. :)

I bought my 17-55 f2.8 IS from them, no complaints. Even had international warranty

! international warrenty? or shop warrenty ? cause i also got the 17-55 is from them and its only (shang hai warrenty/shop warrenty)

bought 2 lens from them as well. first had focusing issues (sigma) which they replaced without hassle. bought an L lens from them as well, good copy i should say.

overall, good service and competitive price (1year shop warranty)...

i also plan to get a L lens from them due to the price they offer... but i wonder how reliable on shop warranty... cos what if *touch wood* they "moved out" and no where to be found? it may sound stupid but this is what i worry about...

Your worry is valid, bro. If they "moved out" and no where to be found means your lens warranty over. Simple ;) Take it as grey set for the $$ you save. Otherwise go for warrantied copy

Thank you all for your advice and comments. Ok i just bought my first L lens, from this shop this afternoon. Wooo....can't belive the performance and the out come of the image! Cool man love L lenses now hahaha.

Welcome to the L family. :bsmilie:

May I know which L lens did you buy?

Bro, if you wanna buy from OP, i'd recommend that you do a thorough test on the lens before buying with the intention of never going back to exchange that copy of the lens. I've bought the 24-105 F4 L from them. No regrets as i don't intent to change this copy of lens. I had never serviced my L lens in the 1st year of purchase and would regard the local 1 year warranty useless for me. Unless you are buying the latest hardware with risks of a recall by Canon, buying grey imports are pretty logical in my view.

may i ask, the price you paid for it?
