Bulb question

I bought 2 lights from ikea and it says "Max 60W"

I would like to use 100W bulbs on it, can?

What would happen?

i am using 2 x 325W fluroscent bulbs for my two $12 ikea light stand. the bulb itself is as huge as my 28-70L

so far so good, there is a label that say max 60W, probably just in case the light overheat

what kind of bulb u want to use? i suppose u want to get those energy saving bulb right? make sure u get cool light and not warm light

i got mine from chinatown at $6 each

i have been searching high and low and even call up the manufacturer that make energy saving bulb, but the price was too high and not powerful enough

DCA told me about that shop, which is opposite the big hawker center in china town. they are the only shop that sell such as high rating energy saving bulb last time...but recently i see there are more shops elsewhere that got similar bulb liao, price range from few dollars to 30 dollars.

but u better bring the light stand along to see if the bulb can fit and power on, the bulb is larger than usual and u may not be able to screw in the bulb all the way in if blocked by the bowl. in that case, u need to pull out the contact inside the socket a bit.

although the bulb made in china and dun even have proper packaging, it is rather durable...i drop the whole light stand together with the bulb until the bottom part of the bulb came off!! but the tube never crack so i just pop it back and i still use it until now

If you use a higher watt light bulb make sure not for long hour and not when no one is home as the wire may not be able to take the high voltage and sometime the holder may burn or melt.

Can't sue them if you exceed 60w.:sweat:and anything happen.

Hmmm...not sure if I am right....

Wattage = Voltage x Current
therefore, if Wattage is increase, voltage remains the same, the current will increase.

Meaning, more current will be drawn... so the equipment might not be able to withstand the high current in long run....

In my opinion, if possible, try to avoid using a wattage higher than the rating value.

These specs for Maximum power is basically for safety measure. In some cases there may be some hardware internally like solders, insulators etc. within the hardware that may change state (melt/discolor/burn) if used in higher than "spec"ed condition - due to the higher current .

Yes, you will not have any issue but in situaations whare ambient condition is hot/warm, temperature of electrical equipment may rise to unsafe level.

In a nutshell, use the equipment outside of specification at you own risk.

but they only have 1 piece left

confirm 325W @ $28 a piece
and it is bigger than my 80-200mm F2.8

I will post pictures once i get home

i dun remember having so big leh... or so long for that matter, 80-200 quite big u know... mine is about the size of a 17-35's box...

they got another one which is smaller (abt the size of 28-70 f2.8) and cheaper - $6 only

u buy 4 pieces of that still cheaper than the $28 one:think:

i go back then take pic to show u...

the packaging is very simple, dont even have a box, but it is cheap and powerful

if the $28 one is as big as 70-200, u better bring your light stand to test if it really can fit
