I love dim sum dolly......
This might be a blessing in disguise for MRT riders in the north like me. Maybe they will solidify and bring forward plans for the Thomson line. As it is today, I can't wait to get off the NSL at Bishan and switch to the CCL whenever I can, even if it meant a longer ride.
It is a profit opportunity. The gahment will fine smrt, smrt will raise prices to get back the fine.
The penalty should be lowering of prices. Why should the gahment get paid for our inconvenience.
Agreed.
For the period of 1 Dec 2010 to 31 May 2011 smrt was fined a grand total of SGD$300/- only.

Left pocket to right. The root of the problem lies deeper.

LTY was checking out the mrt station alone - WITHOUT THE USUAL ENTOURAGE OF APPROXIMATELY 30 ANXIOUS + STRESSED PEOPLE that follow important persons around on their walkabouts. The entourage phenomenon is the same whether in public or private sector.

SMRT Fined $200,000 for Bishan Depot Security Breach
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has fined SMRT $200,000 under the Rapid Transit Systems (RTS) Act for lapses relating to the security breach at Bishan MRT depot on 17 August 2011. This security lapse is similar in nature to an earlier incident at Changi depot in May 2010 for which SMRT was fined $50,000.
2. LTA's investigations found that SMRT had failed to exercise the due diligence and vigilance expected of a public transport operator, by failing to regularly inspect, continuously maintain and repair its operating facilities. SMRT also failed to adequately carry out their responsibility to oversee the day-to-day security operations at its depots, and implement fully the security measures recommended by the Public Transport Security Committee (PTSC) after the Changi depot incident last year.
3. Due to its negligence, SMRT had failed to effectively guard against unauthorised intrusions. It also failed to detect, in a timely manner, the security breach at its Bishan MRT depot and the graffiti on one of its MRT trains on 17 August 2011. As a result, SMRT had breached its obligations under the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Licence & Operating Agreement (LOA).
4. LTA will be closely tracking and auditing SMRT's performance, so that they adhere to the public transport security standards that have been set.
Donation of Fine to the Public Transport Fund
5. The fine collected will be donated to the Public Transport Fund to help needy families with transport fares.

He is not a train driver.
