Breakdown on North-South MRT Line

why don't they open the emegency gate/doors for passenger to evacuate? if an attack occurred, how would they (staff) react? probably in chaos. useless tv education on train platform.

NSL is powered by third rail... Open door when power is not cut is very dangerous.

price hike and train breakdown just don't gel together.

To fursther nick pick...the train ride nowadays are not smooth at all....I can feel jerkiness and the wheel break force when approaching the platform....also...most of the time.....the train door is not align to platform door....especially at Raffles Place MRT.....donno how they can pass their driving test :(

All the trains are automated even the EWL and NSL unless its raining. All the guy up front is press the open and close door button.

My thoughts:

1) Dont blame the SMRT ground crew and staff - they are just acting on instructions - who knows whats going on up there is not their problem.
2) In fact, thank them for their patience and lending a listening ear and hand in times of those being frustrated (Agreed: those affected commuters have a right to be angry)
3) Dont blame the SMRT maintenance team for not doing a better job (Nobody want this to happen more than anyone else)
4) In fact, thank them for their loyalty in servicing and keeping our trains on the go all these years
5) So who should be held responsible for such incidents - SMRT Board and Senior Operations Executive Officers??? I suppose the answer lies in each individual who may have an opionion of things.
6) This is just another unfortunate event (perhaps a blessing in disguise) in SMRT that happens in bad times (considering we just had one on the CIRCLE line last week).....A blessing in disguise that no permanent injury to any commuters
7) To all those affected in one way or another by this incident - COOL OFF and DONT ADD MORE FIRE to this.

Strange you are saying all these when SMRT dont even dare give excuses like whats listed here but apologise immediately for all their shortcomings. And strange too your advice 7) when you rant & rave on another SMRT issue here http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/kopitiam/954041-mrt-train-vandalised-2.html when it doesnt even affect you (& others), unlike now when thousands of people are directly & adversely affected. If the SMRT cannot handle such a situation efficiently & effectively, I dread even to think of the day when a real crisis happen, like bombs going off in our trains (which is one scenario envisioned). Its better SMRT seriously go through all the planning & thinking again about crisis management now. The only fortunate thing is no one is seriously injured in this incident. To me a breakdown is only a matter of time cos the NSL is >23 years old & is under heavy stress with the sudden & steep population, ridership increase. Ever wonder how many buses are required to ferry one trainload of passengers??? & we have like a train every few minutes, both ways. Food for thought.

Don't worry, serious stuff like bombs won't happen. Its already envisaged that the passangers will notice the suspecious person leaving the bag behind and we then press the communication button to inform the staff.
Bomber gets caught and everyone happy. :-)

Well, at least that's what's show on their video. :)

Where was Josephine Teo when the Transport Minister was at Cambodia?

Such low salary. I cant believe it!

Now I dont blame smrt anymore! Really...

Don't over-react. This is just fair wear and tear of the mrt power rail. Even old cameras breakdown and need servicing.
The smrt staff should get the commuters out instead of waiting for them to smash the windows to get air.
My guess is that the smrt staff were clueless what to do and because it is not in the "format", they stop thinking or are afraid to take initiative how to deal. Thus they just sit and wait for smrt top management directions - not sure if any one took charge of the situation. If they did not, then it is extremely bad.

Regarding the wear and tear, they check it every night. a train will slowly go survey every single track carefully and are not allowed to miss even the slightest cracks. all trains also undergo a thorough check before getting the cue from the working supervisor to send the train out. that's why it's such a serious matter that something like that happened.
