Bon Appétit

Beef Stew

This was taken in the same cafe above. I don't really like beef but I will recommend anyone who loves beef stew to give it a try. Price aside ($4.90 or thr about), it was really good. The beef was tender and tasteful and what I loved most was the (sweet) radish which melt in the mouth before even I realized it.

Chashu Ramen

Ramen is a Japanese dish of noodles served in broth and is originated in China. There are many variety of broths and sometimes it determine the success of the ramen. Toppings such as sliced pork or chashu (simmered instead of bbq pork), deep-fried seafood, scallops, chicken, dried seaweed and green onions are commonly used. Almost every locality or prefecture in Japan has its own specialty and is different from each other.

This was taken in Ajisen Ramen in Hougang Mall, the ramen and chashu is good but the broth is a lil too salty to my liking.

agree... Ajisen sucks... shd check out reputed ones like Marutama (Liang Court, the Central, United Square), Tampopo (Liang Court), Ippudo (Mandarin Gallery) and Santouka (the Central). The ramen is much better, and is presented in various other manners.

Thanks metranquility, wacky & Janet.. Didn't know ajisen is so out of favor :bsmilie: Anyway that was my first visit, my boys were craving for ramen and there was no other option so.... To be fair though, the chashu (and the side dishes) were pretty ok.

I love the spicy tonkatsu in Ippudo (and their thin noodles), Tampopo is my favorite and their black pig Shabu Ramen is beyond description. Marutama Liang Ct is good but can't say the same with the other outlet. Have tried Santouka in Cuppage Terrace (almost a year ago), the soup was too salty (worst thn Ajisen), I had to add some hot water to make it edible :embrass: Yet to try the Central outlet tough...

well i'd agree that to some ppl santouka's soup might be on the salty side... anyway which soup base u choose...? i think shio is the more popular base.... and did u order the pork cheek ramen there...?? the BEST THING in santouka is actually the pork cheeks...!!! i'd go back anytime JUST to have the cheeks...!!

u could also check out ramen champion at iluma bugis or changi airport T3...

Yup, I had Toroniku Ramen (simmered pork cheek) which was really nice especially when it was served separately from the noodles. Iirc I had shoyu (soy sauce) soup base and my wife had miso, both were too salty. Have yet to try Ramen Champion, heard they added sweet vinegar to their broth which taste different from the usual ramen

Pork Cutlet Curry Ipoh Hor Fun

This is the improvised version of the popular Ipoh hor fun, took this in Suntec FC. The curry was thick and spicy but the pork cutlet wasn't tender enough, a lil too dry. If you love spicy food (and hor fun), this dish is worth trying.

Pasta

Was in Vivo City last weekend and it was really crowded during dinner time. Mussel Guys was the only place without queue, although we didn't have great experience from our previous visit, my boys did enjoy their pasta. So in we went and regretfully, there was no improvement where the food is concerned but slightly better service.

We ordered the house special platter (which consist of deep-fried assorted seafood of mussels/prawns/calamari, chicken wings, wedges and spring-rolls), chicken linguine, mushroom and vegetable pasta. Honestly, only the vegetable pasta is worth mentioning. The platter (at $22.90) was a big flop ~ overcooked and tasteless, the mussels have that funny smell and the chicken was as hard as rock. Most of the dishes come in set (with soup & dessert) and are cheaper thn ordering a-la-carte, the set menu however, was not provided and we have to ask for it

Really? So coincidence :bsmilie: Yeah, might have since I was running after my younger boy all over the place.. hahaha.. Lucky for you, Swensen is definitely a better choice (but not by much ;p)

hahaa I love the cottage pie, lamb chop and salad bar only :bsmilie:
