Bought a Minolta 80-200mm f2.8 APO "G" lens (black model) from a ex-colleague. My first G lens and WOW  ! Even though this is the earlier non-HS (probably the first model released pre-1990), it's still very sharp and VF is very bright. This is also my first constant aperture lens and although I've always craved one, I never really thought of its implication ... it's really something   to zoom from 80mm to 200mm without your exposure metering changing or VF getting a bit dimmer. Just done test shots around the house of my daughter and cats ... colours are very natural, excellent contrast but need to be careful with vvvvery shallow DOF at f2.8, but sharp when focus is spot on. Oh, and what lovely bokeh! Indoor flash shots between 80-100mm with the 5600HS came out good.
Wished the tripod ring could be removed. No IF so front lens elem rotates on focusing. But length stays the same when zooming. Heavy but not unwieldy; I've actually been shooting all my test shots handheld  ---AS rocks! Funny bayonet mount hood that comes in 2 pieces - a bayonet mount ring and the bulk of the hood that screws onto the mount ring. 72mm filter size so not too big.
Looking to buy a Kenko Pro 300 1.4X or Tamron SP AF1.4X TC next ;p ---AF should still work at f4.
