Folks

I will name the photographer in due time. But as of now, my attempts to contact him since Monday night (4/2/08) to get the hd and memory card/s were in vain.
Phone not answered, sms not replied.
Wifey said to give him time till perhaps next week (after CNY).
If still no sound no picture, we'll name him so that it'll be a learning lesson for the rest of us.
He doesn't come cheap, and neither is he an amateur, that's all I can say rite now..

It does not work this way la. If the sector is overwritten and card formatted, there is a high risk of not being able to recover back the files (except for super duperly expensive methods which the cost u have cited). It has nothing to do with file name, but rather the magnetic sectors.

Tried and tested before on my thumbdrive, did a format to it, overwritten the the content inside with some other data and did recovery and was astonished to see not only that the files before the format was recovered but files way before the format was recover too and they dated back to yr 2006. Tried this method quite a lot of time coz of a buggy imation flashgo thumbdrive, very now and then I plug it into my comp sure got at least one out of ten time it would prompt you that it can read the content of the thumbdrive and that you would need a format. So usually after a format, I would just recover the files again.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, I am very curious about what are the price range that you are paying him ?

This is total irresponsibility. Already bad enough that the shots are gone. What is worse is that the recovery of relationship between customer and photographer not even there. Sux big time like that.

I had friends who were played out by their developers. My friend kena twice from two different developers. My friend is still using film to shoot and the first developer spoilt the film but refused to admit that they spoilt it. It was obvious on the film that it was dropped onto the floor and the solution spoilt the photos.

The second developer admitted that the photos were spolit by him cause his machine jammed his film. It was pure bad luck cause the developer had never happened in his twenty years of service. What is worse is that the film was the part on the solemnisation. The developer claimed responsibility and paid the compensation. He even edited the spoilt photos trying as much as possible to rescue the photos even though compensation was paid. That is what I called service.

Hopefully you get back the photos.

Still no good new after so long? Hope that he can come out and give you a satisfactory answer.

~You'll Never Walk Alone~

The worst thing that I've heard so far from a wedding is no images were captured because the photographer f***ed up.

Total amateur as she didn't check her equipment before the shoot.

Worst still is that money has been paid and money has been spent.

What actually happened? Film never advance? CF Card not inserted (and custom setting enabled to release shutter even though no card?)

Hi

Not too sure if this is the right place to vent my frustration as well as a cry for help.
Got the service of a fellow CSer to do my wedding photos mid Jan 08.

We'll never say it enough, if you want to keep your friends, refuse to shoot their wedding. It seems that the opposite is true as well : if you want to keep your friends, don't ask them to shoot your wedding.

A pro would have kept a saved version of the photographs all the time, he would not have erased cards before he has made a copy on a CD/DVD and on a backup hard disk.

You wanted to save money, at the end, you just get nothing. Once, a woman asked me to make photo of her wedding. I'm not pro, but I still accepted ... for 10,000 S$. She said : "it's too expensive", I answered : "Damn, I'm not pro, I don't want to compete with them".

I hope other peoples will read you and keep the lesson, I hope they'll go to pro for their wedding photo, I hope young photographers will refuse this kind of VERY dangerous mission until they are pro enough to make it.

As long as the CF is not formatted, should be able to recover even with free recovery software such Lexar Image rescue....recovered lost files many times before even from non-Lexar cards....i guess it is a problem now with so many solo 'novice-pros' around....

That's why very important to go to a reputable lab. Even then a reputable lab scratched the entire length of a roll my film probably because of something in their machine. i don't blame them because it's not deliberate.

Which is why, even if I have adequate equipment, I will never ever dare to shoot a wedding by myself. Only after reading through this thread have I realised the number of copies a wedding photographer makes.

There is a reason why there are professional photographers even though the number of people owning "professional" gear is ballooning day by day.

But obviously many do not see it that way... Like others have mentioned "So expensive! I get so-and-so to take for me, he also have a DSLR!"

It is now after CNY - any updates?

Also, how much is "not cheap"?

Maybe you can reveal the name of the freelance photographer.

I believe some of the freelancers here would appreciate if you do so. :)

Yeah. Just in case someone else in here unknowingly decides to hire him for a wedding.

This thread serves no purposes if name not revealed.
