BEWARE OF PARISILK!!!

Hmm... I have always had the impression that Parisilk is one of the recommended shops. Look like I am wrong. Lucky I haven't had the chance to visit them for my needs. Thanks TS for the heads up.

i used to have the same idea as yours but i was dead wrong. i suggest you to be careful to deal with them. but to be frank, if you can, just deal with more reputable store. these people are dishonest prick.

Not only this shop but many others got this problem, even more reputable ones. Always use the lame excuse that such and such maker increase price. Yen go up... Fed up I go jb based on a bro recommendation in this forum to get the 85g the ts wanted last week. Guess what? Had 1st class customer treatment. Molested other lens as well as I'm aiming (most likely dreaming) the 400 and 500mm. Best of all, pay abt $535 for that lens. How come no shop in jb say yen went up? Ringgit is even weaker than sing. Just threw away the box and came back in my camera bag in a jiffy. Already taken close to 800 shots with this lens on my children. Really a great lens for this price range. Even if I pay
> $650 so that I could get my hands on that lens earlier I would gladly do so. Move on, start shooting... And if possible find a shop you like to hang out at. For me my cfm got her hair done nearby while I busy with my purchase. Must ask her again when she's going to get her hair done again!

name of that shop? im interested to know, so can buy also...

Thnks for letting us know, camerax. Yes, we will all be careful from now on.

Today, I decided to buy a Nikon lens 85 1.8G from parisilk and gave them a call (bedok branch because the Holland village branch never picked up my phone calls) and talked to this guy , his name is HAKIM. And he asked me, do you want to buy? And I said “YES, I do”. And he quoted me “600 dollars BY CASH including GST and everything and 2% extra if you pay by credit card” and I said okay fine, I will take it. I asked him, can you send it to HOLLAND VILLAGE? Since its closer to my place and he said “no problem, sir”. He told me he would call me back if the lens has been sent and then 2 hours later , he called me “okay sir, this lens is ready and you can collect it today in Holland village”. I left my name and contact no and basically WE HAD A DEAL!!

i was going to buy a lens last week, called up parisilk and the man told me that they had to get stock from the supplier. when i heard it, i was reminded of this thread and immediately told them "i'll think about it".

Next time no need to throw away box. Just flatten and mail it back with postal service.

Camerax - I completely sympathize with you because I've had a very similar experience a few months ago. The only difference is that my family has been buying all sorts of appliances and electronics from them for over 2 decades and they know us - yet, the new generation (one of the family members already mentioned here) have started some rather dishonest business practices and hence we have now boycotted them.

I went looking for a D800 which was out of stock. Out of curiosity, I also asked about the D4. Because they didn't have stock, they quoted me some very low price (I don't recall exactly, but something like 8,500 all-in when everyone else was quoting 9,000+). When I went back a second time, I saw that they had a D4 in stock on the shelf (but still no D800) and the same person quoted me 8,800 - I didn't protest because I knew the first quote was meaningless - I told him I would think about it and get back to him the same afternoon, and he agreed to hold it for me. I went home, thought about it and called to tell them I wanted it after 15 minutes (I lived 2 minutes away). I was then quoted yet another price (Don't recall exactly - (9,3xx+ I guess) and when I called him out on the discrepancy, I was then told it wasn't in stock. I was like "WTF - I was just in your shop 15 minutes ago and you told me you would hold it for me". Silence ensured, and he then gave me a long speech about how they have to order special packages from Nikon and this was their one allocation and he would call me back after figuring out his "cost"... Which he never did... We called one of his brothers to complain - was assured they would "handle" it - but as expected, nothing ever came of it.

ParisSilk used to have a very good reputation and great relationships with their long-time customers by providing good service and low prices - It seems that they have decided to throw that away in order for some quick profits.

On a side note, does anyone know any similar electronic / appliance dealers who actually value their customers and who also have lower prices than the large chains?

Alexandra village got a few electrical appliances dealer, cheaper than retail and their business always very good. Personally prefer the 1 next to small road (opposite old safra, now demolish), friendly auntie, no push sales.

I have not bought anything from Parisilk before. But personal experience just by calling their Katong and Holland is a difference of Heaven and Hell. The staff who answered my call at Katong was polite (offered solutions for me to call the Holland branch) but the other side (Holland) sounded so cold and didn't bother much.

Lesson is buy from a reputable store from a regular salesman and build a relationship. Sometimes prices may be a bit higher but that few extra dollars saves lots of aggravation later.

This is pretty similar to what happened to me but my experience is WORSE imo. because in my case, the guy was the ONE WHO ASKED ME TO COME and then bailed on me after i got there. but yeah, this store is full of s*** basically. i am so disgusted with the way they treat customer.

I've bought from Parisilk many times and have good experience with them. I don't have any special relationship with them and they don't know me.

The trick is you must only talk to Andrew, boss of the Holland V shop, not the kah kia. Only he can decide the price and availability. Everyone wants to speak to him so sometimes it is difficult to get him on the phone. When you go to the shop and the kah kia frontline staff serves you, ask to talk to Andrew if you're serious about buying.

The kah kia are not camera specialists and just flip through the price list. They sell everything from blenders and toasters to tvs. Sometimes they over quote the price but one time got confused and under quote a 9-18 lens and the CS bro was very happy.

You can ask Andrew for price and have the camera/lens sent over to Bedok or Transit branch the next day for your collection. Then when in Bedok, only talk to Kevin or Anita in Transit.

Never had any misunderstanding over price or availability over the years.

As a customer, I would rather go to a shop where everyone can give me the correct pricing and not just a particular person. I'm giving business to them so why should I wait on the phone for this Andrew when I can get a correct quote easily from anyone answering the phone from let's say TK Foto or SLRR.

It's definitely within your right to choose where you spend your money. Some people like Mcdonalds and eating at any hawker center. Others like to stand in long queues waiting for Adam Road nasi lemak or at the one bak kwa BBQ pork shop in Chinatown even though there are hundreds of other shops selling the exact same thing all over Singapore. There is no right and no wrong.
