Beginners Outing(Part 13)-Tiong Bahru Estate on the 10 July(Photos thread)

cleon, i think lets go back to the days where outings were in a small group.

Yes, now we are beginning to ask the right questions! If Tiong Bahru was chosen as a photoshoot area, there must be something special about it, something that sets it apart from any other estate. As a street shooter, i come in to threads like these to see the potential of a place, whether i should visit it myself later. So far, i've yet to see the spirit or mood or tone of Tiong Bahru. Its essence is missing. :dunno:

I feel the structure of the whole outing needs a relook. It seems the group is too large without enough guides/seniors to support. Do consider breaking up the large group into smaller sizes, led by a competent guide instead of having everyone OTOT shoot themselves. Reason is that first timers may feel too shy to ask questions or may not know who to ask in such a big group. Once they start walking, they may also separate from the few guides available and tend to congregate, newbies with newbies. So, promote those more capable ones to guides like iszan and a few others if any. Then as the regulars improve, you'll have a bigger and more steady pool of guides to support the outing. Newbies benefit more that way.

Bingo, i share the same sentiments as you.. I will try to discuss this with TS on how we could improve the structure of this outing, as well as the compentency of the regulars.. I am sure all of us want to improve and we got to help ourselves with it..

If not really at the end of the day, it seems like a snapshot..

well... the purpose of beginner outing is.....
"Learn from mistakes... and grow stronger..."
when u make mistakes... you tend to learn more... as the mistake is embedded in your head...

i just realised that you all are the people i saw on saturday... just happened to be there eating at tiong bahru market as i used to live around the area when young... and i did some cat hunting... no cats in the end (still wondering why no cats that day)...

from the pictures i see so far... you all only explored the tip of the iceberg of tiong bahru...

I saw the group as I drove past towards T.Bahru Plaza direction at about 10am. One huge group looking here looking there.
I feel that the location was not suitable for such a large group, unless some effort was made to separate the group into smaller sub-groups as Ghaz1 suggested.
In the end it might even be detrimental to the newbies, as they might learn the wrong things from each other if nobody guides them.

Perhaps could also consider inviting some of the experienced CSers as guides? A courteous PM is all it takes. Then they could help lead a group of newbies for you. I see you guys have another big outing lined up next Sat and again, there's only 3 guides to lead 20 shooters. I don't mind helping out for this if i'm free. But do invite people like Bananadiver, Sinned79, Clipper79, Wurdelak, Royale with Cheese, Draken etc. So many street shooters at the Streets section to choose from. Not all will come, but even one or two will be invaluable to those who really want to learn;)

Haha, thanks for your suggestion :)

I will let TS know.. Would love to have more experienced cser tagging along.. after all, we're all here to learn and share our knowledge with each other.. just a pity I got reservist starting from this friday, if you ppl tag along would definite love to exchange pointers on streets..

From the pictures, seems like you guys only explore the area near the market. A small part of Tiong bahru only.
Theres much more to see further in.

Yes, I was with 3-4 newbies at the back... we sure did take some time to walk through the estate explain the fundmentals.. but I agree the group was just too big for us to handle.. and so pockets of individuals happen..

I am sure we can re-look into this structure and see how everyone can benefit from the outing..

Yes, it was mainly the area the grp explored, although there was another small group led by Scoop which continue shooting.. so maybe there's some from him to share

Come and join the Chinatown - Laupasat outing next Sat? There's an open space for guides. I just took up the second last spot. :)

going diving next weekend to top up my salt level... need it to keep my mind sane when shooting... lol

yup... i actually walked past the CC and SAP a few times... other than watching the uncles and aunties play table tennis for a while, i saw no cats.... :( maybe the weather was hot? but then, i seen lots of cats on hot days before... sorry for the OT too... lol dun know where they went.... sigh...

Sorry, for my straight forwardness, but I feel that there's no effort put in in these shots. I guess most of you guys just randomly shoot just of the sake of shooting. Of the shots, I feel there's nothing interesting.

Guys, I'm sure in a hot sunny day, ISO 100, f/8 or higher would be good.

Sorry for my straight forwardness.

Agreed. Shoot more, practise more, learn how to use your cams. Not sure why a ton of the shots are soft, or OOF. From the cams I saw during the outing and the bright day light we were shooting in, it shouldn't have been a problem...

Hey guys,

I'm limiting myself to these few photos. Went for a short walk after I departed the market but sadly, I do not have much to report. I agree that there needs to be more structure to these outings but everything's gotta start somewhere and from there we learn and move on.

Let's get out of our comfort zone, and start pursuing with zest this hobby we say we love..

Let us not be prisoners of our current inaptitude, but instead, break free, pursue and one day, we may succeed
