I just called Cathay/Alan/Parisilk/MSC - price now $445-$450 cash.

No more $410/$420...=(

Maybe the $410-$420 is for 1st batch promo price.

Kinda expected. Bait tactic.

Furthermore, will always say cost go up lah.. US$ go up lah... etc :D

anyone know where to get a hood for this lens locally?
I got the kenko filter for it, and realised that some shots will have flares.. and the B+W filter is kinda exp for me.

Thanks.

Huh? Olympus sells it at a fixed price to dealers, who then choose their own margin (after understanding the MSRP)... So why is this Olympus' fault?

Olympus will suggest a retail price.
Dealers will get a dealers' discount from Olympus, which I think will also depends on the volume they committed.
The dealers will give their own discount to their customers based on the margin they want.
If there is a huge demand and limited supply then they can command a higher profit margin.
If the demand is low and the item is sitting on the shelves then it will be to the dealer's interest to quickly move it and recover his cost with minimum margin.
I used to be interested in a wrist watch when there was a world-wide shortage and they they were going for a premium above recommended retail price!

How there price swing will depends on customers' demand and willingness to pay. Just like bidding for a car's COE in Singapore.

Just visited MSC.
$440.

I walk away.... for now....

Initially, I still had doubts about the lens. Looked liked a 'modified fast 50mm' in size from the photos on the web, but once I see the real thing, all doubts vanished.
Small and responsive focus.
Sharp enough from wide open.

1st post since joining from 08, this doesn't sound like a joke but a scam, sorry to be harsh, but it does seems like one.

ya sounds like it, "gimme money first we mass order, afterwards i will give you the lens as long as i don't disappear"

Anyway, its not right to solicit business here. . .
The Mods are going to get you. . . .:nono::nono::nono:

I was wondering about the same thing too.. Bo reason to buy from him leh

I think I just got the last of 45 mm of the first batch...at least the store say that to me....

OK. Maybe I shouldn't have blamed Olympus so quickly. I wonder whether they really "sell it at a fixed price to dealers" though.

Got the last piece at Cathay Marina for $435 last friday - not sure if they have restocked.

They do. Otherwise favoritism is a problem. Olympus needs the dealers as much as the dealers need Olympus. Probably more. Different dealers have different strategies though. SLRR etc maybe prefer the cheap method, but frequently out of stock. Some stores charge $10-20 more, but attract other customers who prefer the convenience of walking in and walking out with the lens they want for sure.

I was wondering where you guys got the silver filter for this lens?
