[ BBBBug ] Olympus 45mm /f1.8

A quick test - not the best shot that's for sure.

Shot it in car, in the evening. But i think can see the "roundness" of the bokeh. f1.8, 1/60s - ISO1600

First impression - i think this fella lose to PL25mm but then again, its half the price. So am a happy camper, having finished setting up my m4/3 system.

I'm went at 6+ they told me it's sold out. :(

I bought 1 piece from MSColor yesterday lunchtime. Saw that they still have about 5-6 pieces left then.

Happened to be at funan last evening around 7+ as well. Saw TK and Alan Photo had few pieces as well. You may want to try these places if it's convenient for you.....

in which way, this lens lost to PL25mm ? sharpness / resolution / bokeh ?

I think it is not appropriate to compare the 45mm to pl25mm...not just on the count of pricing.. they are entirely different focal lengths...they serve different shooting needs. IMHO the 45mm is very impressive.. low light performance is also amazing.. don't own the 25mm so I cannot comment lol

Anyone can give comment its AF performance on older Pen bodies?
Interested to know.

picked up a copy from Parisilk yesterday afternoon at 420...
really like the lens
the build is good tho it is not made in japan..
my wifey saw the few pics that i took with it and liked it

Qualify that i am just saying this based on first looks and my gut first time feel, and not pixel peeping etc. I think for me the initial feel is the X factor - like the PL pics just "pop" up at you as compared to the Olly 45mm. But i say again, i have done done extensive shooting with the 45mm so i got to do more real life shoots to say.

But i will say one thing, it is great to have something that can reach further than the 25mm, thats for sure :p

@ tky26 - i get your point that we should not compare 25mm to 45mm.

Not sure what you are looking for in its AF performance. I mated mine to E-PL2 and all I can say is that I cannot tell if it is significantly faster than the rest of my lenses. It isn't worst off as well. It works and I am just happy with this lens overall.

no such thing as finished :P

Having said that though the availablity of multiple fast primes for the m43 system now bodes very well..

I am no expert..
since i have both lens i thought of just doing a simple comparison..
nothing scientific here..
lens were mounted on E-P3..

Lens: 45mm F1.8
taken @ F1.8 ISO200

Lens: PL25mm F1.4
taken @ F1.8 ISO200 (changed lens forgot to change the aperture)

Lens: PL25mm F1.4
taken @ F1.4 ISO200

no lights at home so can't compare the light balls bokeh..
:bsmilie:

can't see the difference between the lens in terms of bokeh leh..
think its due to the set up..
but colors are rendered quite differently here..

personally i prefer the PL25mm F1.4..
not in terms of bokeh but the images produced by the lens..

Vengels,

Thank for your sharing. Think I'll get the 25/1.4 first. I find 45mm too tight as walk about lens for me. :)

Bought the lens at MScolor yesterday afternoon at $440 (cash). Still have several more units on the shelf. Have taken the photo shot today with the lens on GH2. Like the bokeh and is good for portrait photos. Will shoot more video later. Anyone to share the experiences with the video on GH2. Thanks.

Parisilk at holland village out of stock till next week. Gave them a call today and that's what they told me. Should be in by this monday.

Tested on EPL1 on low light, can feel the difference vs EP3. focus objects 1m and 3m. Almost a second difference. Haven't tested on bright light, i suppose the significance will be little.
The algorithm to AF is different on both bodies, on EPL1, it seems even when focusing on same spot several times, the lens need to go back to "home position" before it focus again, so that kinda slow things down, on EP3, it just zips into the new focus position. I also turn off AF illuminator on EP3 just to make sure for apple to apple. Not sure if the explanation was clear enough:o
