[ BBBBug ] Olympus 45mm /f1.8

I am in the same boat as you, having own 25 mm pentax cctv lens and 50 mm super takumar

Me too. Have SMC50, OM50 and ZD50 Macro too. The 50mm range seems to be the best value for money in photography.. I'll just wait and play with friends'. :)

Damn, just spent on G3.
Got to see if I can live with MF using 35 to 55mm fast lenses and EVF.
If still too slow, I'm sure to take the plunge.... or still take the plunge regardless but have to wait for next paycheck.

How CS works is in the end you'll probably have the MF lens for better bokeh, but also buy the AF anyway because the 45/1.8 is so awesome. :)

First time I held the lens I was doubting the reports of this being a plastic lens. The feel and weight and whole build quality made me think that this was not plastic. It's built that well.

Feel and weight and aesthetics don't necessary indicate good build quality ! They could have just used more aluminum on the outer shell and all plastic inside. Aluminum is dirt cheap anyway.

i caved in and bought it last night at MSC just before they closed..

besides the 12mm F2 i think this lens has the next best build quality..
and it screws on damn tight on the EP3..

while testing it last night at home my PL25mm F1.4 decided to become a rattlesnake and made a lot of noise (1st time ever) when i tried to compare both lens..
i think it feels threatened by the 45mm.. :bsmilie:

Man, you are worse than me on this m4/3 thing. So fast got a G3 already? I think I'd just stick w/ GF1 for now.

Guys, I use my 20mm on a regular basis and am contemplating if I should offload my Panny 14-45mm for this. Any advice ?

it depends on what kinda pictures do u take..
since you say you use the 20mm on a regular basis then the 45mm will have quite a different field of view..
you can try setting the focal length of your panny to 45mm and try taking pictures at this focal length..

i would say the zoom lens is quite versatile so it really depends on the way you shoot..

its down to personal preferences..

Lol.. Feels good though! Half the battle won..

For me, I will definitely keep the good 14-45mm, even if i dont use it often.

It's sharp wide opened from 14mm all the way to 45mm and corner sharpness are as good. Stopped down a little, it can be as sharp as prime lens (of course unless you pixel peep).

Keep the 14-45 and buy this 45/1.8 when you can afford it. IMO, the kit lens is more versatile for day to day usage while this portraits lens is quite specialised.

BTW, the 14-45 is anytime better than the newer 14-42 and Oly 14-42 in terms of optical and build quality.

thank you fellas for all your prompt and helpful advice. Much appreciated

Just wondering, how does the Oly 45mm compare to the PL 45mm macro, in terms of portrait shots? I heard the latter is pretty decent too.

I know the PL cost a lot more, but price point aside, which takes better portraits? Eg sharper, low light, etc.
Thanks

Any one uses this 45mm 1.8 on E-P2? How is the focusing speed and accuracy? Very tempting! :)

I just can't frame as well w/o viewfinder.
Reaction time to getting a shot is also very slow for me without viewfinder.
Furthermore, I think I can MF faster and more accurate with the 24/2.8, 35/2; 43/1.9; 50/1.7, 55/1.8, etc.

Its the camera I wanted in the very first place. (original pan was EPL1 with VF2)
Small, light, EVF, better MF options if I need it.
Extra bump on the grip area is nice and "grippy", but not too jutted out and obtrusive like on the previous G's.
Window in window zoom area for MF, w/o losing view of composition and situation.
High resolution EVF to see better for MF.
Its basically a GF1+

You should try one ;)
