[ BBBBug ] - E-PL3 now available

I have no idea what Olympus does for the exterior of the body, but I do know the silver is like, a coating over metal, reason why I know is cause my E-P1 has scratches and its silver hahhaha, and I GUESS, that the white colour on the white PENs are just like, a coat, which probably don't weigh much either way, underneath the white exterior, I believe is still metal, hence the similar weight, gotta keep it consistent as well, can't be 1 body be plastic and the rest metal hahahha

As to which lens to choose, its a very personal thing, many use pancake because, as you've said, its slimmer, as well as being brighter hence faster, cannot zoom is not exactly saying a limitation, it helps the person learn the limits, like if you want to shoot without looking, how would the 20mm look like? its compression, its distortion bla bla bla, the more you shoot with a fixed focal length, the more you'll know about it, plus it trains your legs hahahah (a bit lame la) because it forces the person to walk, some prefer zoom as a coverage of different focal length

But as i've said, its personal, I'm still using my 17mm pancake because there are no bright zooms available yet, as well as the fact I pack my E-P1 in a place where there is not much space for zoom lens so I'm stuck with my pancake, and honestly... I still have no use for a zoom lens on my PEN except when I'm shooting video, which is hardly these days, so my only advice is to decide for yourself, both lenses are great, but which suits you more is another question, personally, if you're the type that just shoot for fun, probably the zoom lens will suit you just fine

hahaha!
Thanks alot for your advice!

Btw is it better to buy at comex or just get it from SLR R (which im not sure where!), what is twin lens kit btw?

Get the pancake lens. I don't know abt the quality of 17mm pancake. But as soon as I get my Panny pancake 20mm, I have never use the Olympus zoom kit lens that comes with my E-PL1. With bigger aperture, it is good for night shots and nice bokeh too.

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to get the EPL3 after using my friend's EPL2 and it was so fun using it!

But as a female, i would like to know if the EPL3 is lighter and more portable than the EPL2? Is there a weight difference between the white and silver colour?

Im planning to use the zoom lens instead of the pancake lens. Dont feel comfortable without the zooming function

The EPL3 is definately more compact than the EPL2. It also feels lighter to me. You can either google the exact specs on the internet or if numbers do not mean anything to you, just go down to a camera shop in funan or sim lim and feel it yourself. Remember to ask them to put battery. As for difference in weight for colour, it is negligible. BTW dun hv to wait till comex - the best deals are not usu there.

Comex price is usually RRP, SLRR is cheaper, Comex got more freebies (though not really useful), twin lens kit is when there are 2 lens in the package instead of 1, with a different price of course

So can give comex a miss! I also thought their freebies are always quite useless stuff..

Anyway, can someone let me know where is SLRR?

The lens is standard right? Any points i have to take note when choosing/checking the lens?

Thanks again everyone!

it's located at Funan IT Mall... there are few shops that sells lots of stuff... EP3 i mean... check the prices theres..

i dont think the lens will be much of a problem, just hook it up, put in the battery and test it in the shop. just take some picture to make sure its focusing correctly will do.

got mine last week, now hunting for lenses to suit my taste.

I've told many of my friends "if you're unsure of where to buy, just buy at reputable places like HN, courts, best denki" but you could probably check out J316 as well, just be sure to double check everything and that you've gotten your warranty, though SLRR has got a relatively good rep, I personally have not dealed with them and so its a little hard for me to personally trust them, but of course... That's just me

I agree with this, have the 14-150mm but after I got the 20mm, it's the zoom lens at
home most of the time. Using e 20mm really helped me in learning how to frame shots and its F1.7 is wonderful compared to the zoom's F4

Actually what is the diff between 20mm and 17mm?

Just the width or wider angle?

20mm: Sharper, less wide, shallower depth of field ( blurrer background), larger aperture (faster shutter speed).

Richard Franiec has a new grip for epl3, check out here

i dont think it's possible to get that price for the 2 kit lenses... only 1 lens ba.

the 14mm is usually use for landscape or portrait with landscape.

the 150mm is usually use for subject where u dont get close... sports, animals... portrait if you want a good bokeh.

What is the TLK price at SLRR n Cathay? :)

actually i am quite surprise when they quote me this price but then the sales told me there is price drop for the new stock coming in soon...so i thought it's real~ make me happy for almost one week while waiting for them to re-stock the twin lens kit and end up with disappointment.

coolsigg: i got SLK instead of TLK in the end as i dont think i will use the 40-150 that much...will go for 20mm pana few months later....

Hi all, I'm looking to get a Olympus 40-150mm m4/3 lens. If anyone is willing to share their EP3 twin lens kit with me, pls let me know. Thanks!
