Bought CF card 31 oct 2010, then used for overseas trip. once come back to spore
cant transfer file to computer. CF card faulty

i called SLR Revolution they cannot return, even cannot advice me where to back up my data. i remember when i bought memory card / CF card from cathay, ms color, challenger if have problem they can exchange.

please be careful next time when u bought there.

Did you check whether you walked into the correct SLRR when buying it?

I am not sure whether SLRR has a 7 days return policy, some stores do have this policy.
So when did you found out the problem and went do to SLRR?
I am confuse by your statement 'even cannot advice me where to back up my data', are you asking them to advise you where to find someone to recover your data on the CF card?

What brand did you buy? If it is sandisk or other known brands, I believe there should be some info on the box/casing to claim warranty with the agent(s), provided you keep the receipt.

i'm sure i go to SLRR, at 109 north bridge rd #04-18 Funan

usually i always bought from cathay or ms, but they dont have stock for 16 GB extreme CF card 60mb/s.
so i go there on 31oct at night i test to my camera it seems ok. i try to format it also ok. but my mistake, that i never try take picture and tranfer it to my computer.

the next day i travel to europe, when i got back yesterday i try to transfer file to my computer. then it show error msg. cf card faulty.

so i called them yesterday,
ask them can help to exchange? "they said cannot"
ask them where can i backup/ restore my data? " wallau eh so busy can call again later?"
then ok loh, i'll never bought there anymore.

just be carefull when u bought there, thanks for the reply bro

OMG! Mean potentially losing all the pics you took in Europe.
Think Friday and yesterday are busy days for most of the shops as many people went down to get/enquire the new D7000.
I am not sure how you try to download the pics from your CF card - (a) take out CF card and insert to a card reader or (b) usb cable to cam body?
If you put the CF card in the cam body, can the pics still readable/viewable?

TS, have you formatted the card before use?

I think it is wise not to bring an untested card to use first. And backup your pictures on a portable photo storage or laptop, if possible.

:)

First do like what kwttan wrote.

Secondly, I don't think its the responsibility of the shop to help you return it. Yes, they can go the extra mile to help but if they don't, I don't think that is a big problem. Most of the time the warranty information is listed on a sticker or box of the storage media.

Have you tried calling the service center? That would be the best place to ask don't you think?

Frankly, is this good service? I would say no but is it bad service? I would say no to that also. So I don't think it is fair for this thread.

You just had a run of bad luck, I sincerely hope that you can recover photos.

So all the best.

lets be fair here....

1) sandisk u can get it replaced with vector if you have the box with sticker....they may not exchange for you coz its after 7 days...they may not exchange it coz u can go direct to distributors

2) no camera shops are responsible to tell u where to backup or restore your files. this is user problem. google and look for the solution. i believe most of us here restore our files through software or other means. who goes to a camera shop and tell them to restore the data?

just because you suay and you blame it entirely on a shop. even if this is bally photo and they have given you the same reply i would say they have not done anything wrong

TS just my thoughts, hope you don't mind.

1st, you have exceeded the 7 days 1 to 1 exchange. If everyone use their card for 2 weeks, maybe have taken thousands of pictures, and then send it back to shop asking to change a new one, I think most shops will close already.

2nd: SLR is currently my most favoured shop, together with Parisilk. Reason is because their pricing always very competitve and you don't even need to bargain, because their opening price is already cheaper than other shops. In addition, they also gave me advise not to buy certain accessories when not needed (which means they never earn extra from me). I doubt such shops should be discredited so openly in a forum like this.

Sometimes, incident like TS happens, but really, have to put it down to bad luck, rather than cursing the shop. I like MS too, but only if dealing with Florence. Other staffs I have my reservation.

In conclusion, I feel TS should not be discrediting a shop so openly here, when after reading what he wrote, immediately my mind was thinking "So many days already still want to claim from them ah" If you want, I think you should claim from the manufacturer, not the shop. Not sure if it is feasible though. Maybe can call them up to check.

TS, hope you don't feel offended. Just putting in my humble 2 cents. :)

Most shops have a 7 days return policy. After that you will usually be directed to the agent for any exchange.

I did a one-to-one exchange for a 3rd party battery without any fuss there recently - but within the 7-day period.

I'm not related to the shop in anyway except that I am a first-time customer who is very pleased by their efficient service and competitive pricing.

7-days? Not really, I once bought a 3rd party battery for my d300s. after few weeks using, suddenly I found that the battery got problem-always blink lo-batt on my camera. I called them and Jason(ex-staff) happened to answer to my queries and he agreed to change to a original battery with a top-up. Did TS managed to speak to Ray cos he is very polite in handling customers.

Sorry for OT a bit. I purchased a wireless trigger few months ago from Parisilk on the night I flew overseas for a holiday. While on it, I discovered that it didn't work. So after my 10 days holiday, I returned the thing for replacement. They didn't even ask for the receipt ;p

3rd party battery & wireless trigger.
I suppose it's either no warranty or warranty is given by the shop?
Thats why they are responsible to replace it for you.
deeaddario, you paid A TOP-UP to have it replaced, that top-up could probably had already covered the cost + some profit to them

As for TS's sandisk card, it should had came with warranty from vector magnetic, thus the shop should not be responsible to replace it, unless it's within the first 7 days.

To TS, can you still view the images from the card on your camera? if yes, then the problem does not lie on the card, but instead the connection between the card and your PC, or it could be your PC.

Hush Hush crybaby. I wont complain if i were you coz its no fault of the shop.

Really unbelievable what shops are supposed to do.. just waiting for the time when they also have to offer wiping customer's bum with fragrance tissue.
TS: As mentioned by many: just because you bough something in a shop does NOT mean the shop is also responsible for the warranty process and exchange. Please read the fine print on the box of the memory card.
All exchange policies for data storage devices (memory card, hard disks) clearly exclude any recovery services. It is responsibility of the user (here: you) to a) take care about data backups and b) get data recovered if necessary by engaging 3rd parties. It helps to read the T&C of warranty.
