Bad Experience IT SHOW - dont buy Canon 30D

On thursday! the very first day, i went to buy my Canon30D with the promise of getting the merchandise. I was hoping to get the camera so i can use it for my upcoming travel.

I paid for the whole camera with my credit card and then they tell me I have to collect my camera on friday as they have run out of stock. Fair enough, maybe it is the first day.

So today, friday, i went down AGAIN, the distributor, Boon electronics tell me there is not stock, DESPITE telling me to come back the next day to collect. (wasted one day here)

I have to wait until END OF the MONTH and still might not be guaranteed that i will get my camera, quote "Because of shipping period, there will be some delay, i cannot guarantee the stock will arrive as expected" according to the Manager of the distributor, MR L**** (which i will omit the name for r** purposes).

So what shall i do, i tell them i need to camera for my trip soon, all they insist is they can only provide me with my camera, which I HAVE PAID FOR at the end of the month, (which is also not guaranteed)

From 7pm to almost 10pm, I have to BEG FOR MY REFUND BACK, such customer service, this distributor remain adamant and I had to stake my stand on it. The manager said they only had 20 sets which was given out and the rest of us have to wait. The manager very adamant and non-chalant about the whole issue, and said it is not their fault in the whole matter even thought they, the distributors promised me the camera on the next day.

If i wanted my refund, I had to personally go down to their head office with all their free gifts (which cost NOTHING), then get a refund from it.
As i paid for my camera via installment, there will be a $100 bank charge for cancellation fee. So what am i do to?

There is no compensation for the long waiting period, there is also not compensation for the refund and not to mention, no compensation for the time wasted for me. I had to waste 2 trips just to get my refund back.
Waste one friday which i was suppose collect the camera which they promised
Waste another day to go down to their office for refund.

Now is this call customer service?

Bad bad call Boon Electronics as a well known distributor. And shame on Canon for not living up to their supposed service standard.

My conclusion, never buy anything from the IT show, even thought they promised that their goods will arrive the next day, they WILL LIED.

I not only get a headache of begging them again for my refund on monday, waste more time and effort, and not to mention, I didnt get my camera.

I urge you all not to buy any products from the IT with this distributor and Canon because they lied and did not fufill their promise.
 

I think that you can lodge a complaint with CASE about this issue and let CASE take action agains the parties involved.

since you pay by CC you can call the CC hotline to cancel it. :)
 

I hope others who have the same experience with me, will gather and take the stand.

They shouldnt be selling their products and taking people's money if they do not even have the stock to begin with.

I was shocked that the manager said they had only 20 sets brought it.

Now i have to wait until monday and PERSONALLY bring the gifts down to their head office for their supposed promise of refund.
 

Wah, 20 sets also dare to sell at the IT SHOW? I think they purposely cheat you. See, if they run out of stock, they have to tell you before you make payment. But if they tell you only after you've made payments, then its cheating! Report to CASE. Anyway, it does not cost much to report to CASE to handle such cases.

None of us here work at CASE except to feel sorry for ur bad experience, I suppose we can't do anything abt it.

U might get a better response if u complained directly to CASE. They will sympathise & take action for u.
 

whoa, that sucks man! you might want to call your credit card issuer to confirm the S$100 fee. maybe the vendor is bullshitting you. also you might want to ask your credit card issuer if the S$100 fee should not apply since the vendor defaulted and ask them to void that transaction.

give the poor guy a break lah. at least those of us who are planning to buy something from the vendor would now know we should be more cautious.
 

That's why some times it pays to buy from a more credible/reputable seller like CP......
May be can feedback to Canon Singapore too.

Why the shame on Canon? You have chosen to blacklist and urge everyone to blacklist Canon who has no part in this at all. Canon is simply the manufacturer of the camera. What has Canon lied about and what have they not fulfiled? From your account, it appears that it's Boon Electronics that you should be venting your steam on

From your account, while I empathise with your situation, you should not tar evryone with the same brush. You are urging everyone not to buy anything from the IT show simply because you had a bad experience with one particular vendor?
 

Make a complain to the Case. then with that report make a complain to yr Credit Card Bank.
It might take a while like a month. However, if findings is true, bank might not charge you for the 100/-$. At least you will get yr money back base on the grounds of undelivered goods within the stated date.
 

i guess if u've paid for it and u've not received the goods. NO DEAL OR TRANSACTION HAS BEEN MADE. i think you deserve to have your money refunded. no goods, no deal. especially when it was not highlighted on the time of delay.

however, it would be good if you speak nicely to the person once again and kindly highlight to him about the point above. perhaps there has been some miscommunication and some bugs need to be sorted out between both of you. might need to see from the perspective of the distributor.

if worse case, newspapers and CASE. but i doubt the time, effort and hassle would be worth it.
 

curious here, but before u made payment (be it full payment or instalment), don't they have the entire package + freebies bundled for u? it shd be No Camera No Pay...

So other 20 sets of Canon 30D ever sold at the I.T fair? Ridiculous right?
 

I sympathise with your plight. It certainly is dishonest and unethical practice on the part of Boon Electronics. Locking in yr money by promising you goods they cannot deliver.

But on yr part you should exercise more caution. For expensive items, insist on Cash-on-delivery. If they want a deposit/full payment to put you on a reserve list, refuse. If they tell you stock's coming in tmr, come back tmr and buy it. If they tell you on day 2 its already sold out, they probably never received stock in the first place.

There are always pit falls to being an early adopter. Supply chain issues, hardware defects, firmware issues etc. Its all part and parcel of being the first, or among the first with the coolest toy in town. In short, you can't have your cake and eat it.

If you want assurances and confidence, go for tried and tested stuff that's on the market now. Etc. 20D or 350D, while not brand new, have all their major issues ironed out. Also, there's unlikely to be supply chain problems since the mad rush for it was long over. Besides, supply issues are always a problem with new stuff. Its really nothing unusual.

BTW Boon used an old tactic. By taking yr cash, they secure the sale without delivering the goods. Its like futures trading, except you lose. In the meanwhile you can't bring yr business elsewhere.

There were 3 of us with the same situation, paid up with installment, but did not receive goods. So i was not the only one, i am sure there are more people with similar situation. I may be the first person who start complaining on this forum. :dunno:

First I talked to a lady from Boon electronics, didnt do anything. so i waited for another person.

Another guy from canon, talked to the other poor guy with same situation and tried to convince him to wait for his product, i didnt like the way this guy was banging down on the poor chap.
Sorry being a woman, its tough when you see someone being banged down on. -> bad impression on canon guy. Shouldnt you be trying to help the poor chap instead of banging down that "since it is a new item, you should wait for it".

please read my sentence again, If anyone considering buying the new camera, should be aware that they will not able to collect their goods on day of purchase. I learn it the hard way, i hope others will learn on my mistake :(

That is all i shall comment about. It helped a little when i vent some frustration. Thanks for your advise
