"Bad Ergonomics"

according to my experience, all semi-pro to full-pro bodies are good.

A700, A850 and A900 not problems with ergonomics for most users, except for a few whom hands are either too small and frail.

Whatever it is, I'm sick of all this Sony-bashing. I've been in car forums, bike forums, but this is the first time I've seen people so "passionate" about the brand of kit they own.

Get use to it bro. We've been the underdogs/outcast of the industry since (for me, at least) the KM DSLR days. It's a worldwide phenomenon.

And kinda feeling fortunate that our "kind" is kept at a low-profile. We definitely don't need all the attention.

Just gives us a feature-packed DSLR eg A55 and I'm out shooting. The other brands users dunno what they are missing.

Sssshhhhhhhhhh ;)

I think ergonomics is mainly dependent to individual some with small hand would ike the size and form of A33/A55 while those big hands would like the size and form of A700 A800 etc or D90 60D etc...

We cant compare 60D with A55 these are two different user base cameras... A55 taregting the entry leel or pro consumer group while 60D is meant for semi pro to pro...... these two cam will have different ergonomics becuase of the targetted user base.

But to me as A33 user (close sibling of A55) I am proud my cam is being compared with such of 60D lols those using 60D hmmm well i am not so sure if the feel is mutual

hehehe yep on also include our cusin at the Olympus camp we are the smallest group/user based in DSLR worlkd I think Pentax is also one like us :bsmilie:

We are so called the under dog... well i always like being the under dog coz expectation is not that high so if we win it's a huge leap we if lose it's nah no biggie lols:bsmilie:

If u r used to a Sony you'll find a canon not user-friendly n vice versa.

This is my very first dslr so I cannot comment on other brands. I can only say it's ergonomics is way better than the FM2 I had 10yrs ago, but that's a whole different category.

i concur.

i dun like sony, i only feel that they make good TV but not cams. ;p

If rigid fits like a glove for one - it probably fits poorly for someone else.

My only ergonomical problem with A55 is the position of the delete button, especially when used for VF zooming.

just like those who choose A700 in earlier days, they get to enjoy the best w/o much attention. We benefit from Sony current position as a brand trying really hard to make it name in DSLR market.. with all the superb features/quality over price ratio.

any reason why u dislike sony? why do you feel they do not make good cams?

i'm new to dslr/dslt n after trying major brands, sony a33 won me over. full hd video with autofocus, fast n accurate af @ great price, sss, good iq with low noise (not lowest though), a pletora of functions like sweep pano etc.

sony is really not good, it's great!

like slipdisq says

i am a canon user and i will have all sorts of positive things to say about canon and negative on other brands ;p

anyway, since the cybershot days of sony, it doesn't impress me a single bit. in fact i am more of a panasonic lumix user before then. But my first camera is still a canon (Canon A40 which is a very very old model).

but comes to TV wise, i think sony wins all brands outright, none come close except Sharp :p

Canon is well-known for not having good ergonomics... their system of dial plus button presses have always been criticised... It's only belatedly on the 7D that they have adopted the systems that KM first implemented and inherited by Sony and then also adopted by Nikon. It's called dual thumb dials with dedicated buttons for most exposure elements... I've tried using a Canon 1Ds, 1D, 1DmkII, 1DmkIII, 5D, 5DmkII and they all are pretty bad in terms of usability... once you have used either a Sony or Nikon or Pentax system, you will have difficulty trying to use a Canon cos it takes a lot of fiddling to find out how to change any settings... it's that bad... you've got to try it... I noticed that most people new to Sony or KM can pick up the camera and use it after about 10min... I have passed my cameras (7D & A-900) to my students who are complete newbies and they can figure out how to use it.... whereas I have been shooting with DSLRs for some time now and I just can't figure out the Canons... I had to ask the owner for help for almost everything... including simple things like changing ISO, change focus mode, focus point, switch from AF to MF, review and deleting, rotating photos, etc... pretty horrendous experience for me... plus there's a lot of menu diving...

60D to the A55????

Sheesh, so the budget-oriented A55, which is going against the 550D, gets compared to the 60D? Pffffffft

everytime also like that one lah.. get use to it.:bsmilie:

60D? A55 has been compared to 1Dmk4 in various occasions, let alone that lowly 60D!

In the end, which models better or not.. don't matter.

Might as well ask ourselves, are we better? can we be better? And improve our own photographic skills.

That is much more worthwhile than all this useless bickering.

:thumbsup: Agree with bro daredevil123...Go out, shoot and learn more...
Pics talk better !!

I think ergonomics is about getting used to...of coz as a Nikon user, most Nikon feels so familiar and easy for me... I have tried sony in their show room and within minutes, I figured out the menu...grip wise, at least A550 feels fine... to me, I can never get used to a canon...I have tried my friends' 5D, 550D but could not reli do what I want without asking around...though the 5D feels good to grip...

I wonder if nikon/canon are design in a way tt once u r used to 1 brand, the other 1 would b a total alien...haha...I have seen ppl owning both systems at the same time though...

having tried all 550/60d and d3100/d300/90/5000 before

i find nikon ones still better than canon

This is my feel before I bought sony dslr, to me, cost of the system, and ease of handling is most important. Went to shops and tried the big three's dslr and like what was mentioned, couldn't really find the way how to change simple settings like aperture etc... in canon or nikon. I guess that is to cater to their loyal line of customers who had already got used to it.

I'm another one of those who have been won over to the Sony Camp thanks to the awesome feature set offered by the A33/A55. As this is my first dslr, I didn't really have much to compare my experience with but I find that the buttons on it seemed to be quite easy to access. Then again I think that with enough experience any camera can feel natural in your hands or at least serviceable.

Like many others, I admit that it's a bit too small though - See the hanging Pinky syndrome. I don't get the feeling when I tested out the other entry level DSLRs.
