"Bad Ergonomics"

There are many kinds of drinkers ! :bsmilie: ...the beer drinkers like to grab their mugs with their whole hand, the wine drinkers likes to hold the stems of their wineglass (think a230, A330) ...and the A33/A55 users are like sake drinkers, the pinky is for supporting/steadying the bottom of the cup.

To all A55 and A33 owners "Kampai!!!":sweatsm::lovegrin:

It's more than the Bravia TVs for Sony. Though I hate their laptops, too overprice for the specs.

yeah true I hate some Sony products I find it too expenssive also... i hope they wont increase the price of thier DSLR when thier market share increases.

At the end of the day just use whatever you are happy with. There have already been too many fanboys out there thrashing Sony and they have their own mindset, so it's difficult for them to accept other brands. This is also the reason why most senior Sony users have already left this forum and enjoying this hobby with like minded Sony users happily in the other forum.

Just one remark in another thread is enough to get the Sony apologists out in arms...

It is possible for the same camera can have both good and bad ergonomics. The user holds it differently, finds it discomforting to twist the thumb this way, or prefers to control with both hands etc.

Anything can happen so get over it.

The same goes for other brands as well, so no difference actually. There will always be fanboys in every brand.

I disagree...:nono:
I couldn't agree more to your last sentence. The xxD and xD series have too large grip, while the xxxD and 1000D has too small grip. At least the Nikons have a good grip in their mid range. I havent tried Pentax or Sony extensively though so no comments ...

I disagree wth u. Truth can be said about the non Sony, Nikon, Pentax etc users as getting used to their ergonomics are by means not easy. :nono:
Canon is well-known for not having good ergonomics... their system of dial plus button presses have always been criticised...

...and then, there are some people who prefers to drink straight from the beer Jug ! :bsmilie:

i love whiskey from those old whiskey glasses. hmm not mentioned here HAHA

this is basic human behavior, once you are very used to a product regardless of brand, u will normally stick to it. 8 years ago, i got my first digital cam which is a canon then later i got myself a panasonic lumix then in the end i went back to canon and got myself a DSLR.

so ask me to use sony or nikon, it will be a new learning curve which normally human will resists.

if i had started off with a sony, i wun be debating with u on this now.

...I like you ! ...I really do ! :bsmilie:

Firstly, you're not afriad to admit being a fanboy and a true blue one at that. I really admire the samurai spirit ...so even if the war is over, you'll still hide in some jungle and continue fighting.

Secondly, you're polite enough and not flaming anyone, merely stating your opinion that you dislike Sony ...which is perfectly allright ! ...not everybody who drinks beer like wine and vice vs.

Thirdly and most importantly, you do admit to your mistakes ...to me, this shows a person who is not too full of himself and is willing to learn.

Lastly, on your post above, reminds me of WW1 pilots ...they would rather stay in the familiarity of their flaming cockpits all the way to ground impact then to jump out into the unknown with their parachutes. ;)

...not heard of the E-mount Nex ??? :bsmilie: ...small and tiny, you don't hold the body, you hold it by the lens !!! :sweatsm:

haha i want to explore but no $$ to explore. cos i already touched a DSLR, if i want to change, its not the brand that matters but a different camera system totally.

i am still dreaming of owning a DRF some day.

That's why I like to go outing with buddies/friends with other systems. Holding, testing and asking them questions about their cameras is worth a 100 times more than discussing it on the forums with all the malicious mis-information (applies to all brands) ...I like to form my own opinions based on what I've seen, experienced and heard from people I trusts who have used them. ;)

i played with a sony DSLR (forget the model) before but dun like it and the feel also. maybe i too used to canon ;p

nikon is even worst, i am totally lost!

haven touched a pentax or olympus yet.

So, at the end of all this, we want to take pictures.

Your bad may be my good. If a design is bad, not matter how much $$$$ is pumped in adverts, the product will die a natural death.

Same goes to brands when innovation cease.

Let's start taking photos more and gear bitching less.

Wow, 1.5yrs so much post. Shld spend less time here.

Canon is well-known for not having good ergonomics... their system of dial plus button presses have always been criticised... It's only belatedly on the 7D that they have adopted the systems that KM first implemented and inherited by Sony and then also adopted by Nikon. It's called dual thumb dials with dedicated buttons for most exposure elements... I've tried using a Canon 1Ds, 1D, 1DmkII, 1DmkIII, 5D, 5DmkII and they all are pretty bad in terms of usability... once you have used either a Sony or Nikon or Pentax system, you will have difficulty trying to use a Canon cos it takes a lot of fiddling to find out how to change any settings... it's that bad... you've got to try it... I noticed that most people new to Sony or KM can pick up the camera and use it after about 10min... I have passed my cameras (7D & A-900) to my students who are complete newbies and they can figure out how to use it.... whereas I have been shooting with DSLRs for some time now and I just can't figure out the Canons... I had to ask the owner for help for almost everything... including simple things like changing ISO, change focus mode, focus point, switch from AF to MF, review and deleting, rotating photos, etc... pretty horrendous experience for me... plus there's a lot of menu diving...

On the contrary i heard Canon has the easiest/best ergo. This one is more of personal inclination than anything else.

A little about how i started DSLR. Back in '04, i went to Best Denki at Taka, there were 3 booths, Canon, Nikon & Oly. Went to try the 20D, was able to operate in 3mins. Went to Nikon booth, tried the D70, cudn't fig out how to use it in more than 10mins. Went to Oly, tried the E1, was able to use it in 5mins. In the end bought my 1st DSLR, Oly E1, due to other advantages that superseded the other brands & models.

Now i own an old 40D & a new 60D. Although some changes were made with the ergo & navi UI, but the commonly used features r still out there with dedicated buttons. ISO, Drive mode, Metering modes, Play, Erase, Zoom-in & zoom-out in playback, etc all have dedicated buttons (AF/MF on lens though, which also makes sense, why need a 2nd knob on the body too for the same purpose?). So not sure whats ur fuss is about? :dunno: Those not commonly used parameters r in the menus, which is pretty much the same as any other brands/models. (Eg, file size, art filters, dial direction, EV Steps, ISO boost, File numbering, Date/time, etc)

In summary, i re-emphasise, ergo is more of a personal inclination than anything else.

So that cheaper screw driven AF lens could be used ! :bsmilie:

Your comments is akin to a person who drove Automatic cars their whole life asking why a manual transmission car needs a clutch.

Now, my question to you: Why the 60d instead of the 550d ? ...would be really lame if it's just for the swivelling LCD. :bsmilie:

Mind you, I don like beer...:nono:

That's okay, guess you don't like oktoberfest as well ...but I just love those Jugs ! :sweatsm:
