Has anyone use the Hoya HRT which is a CPL + UV at the same time?
Seems convenience as no need to change filter (take out UV, put on CPL) for usual landscape.
But I wonder if I am lazy to take out and shoot at night, what would be the outcome? though lost some light but any other harmful effects........

Why need CPL + UV? If CPL is on, then no need for UV already, esp when shooting at sea level.

UV is effectively just a lens protector in most situations.

UV filter not only protects, it cuts haze making photo more contrast and slight more blue sky.
CPL - eliminates reflections, higher contrast n colour saturation
Both are of diff purposes.
If you only want to protect then just buy a protector filter $10 Vs B + W Fpro UV $100+, why ppl would get a $100 UV to protect your lens right

My experience....different UV may affect your photo output. One of the problem that I have encountered is flare. This happens on one of the Marumi, B+W F-Pro, Tiffen that I have used. It is not conclusive as it is just one sample. Then I have also used a Canon protector. Within one usage, the rim is dented and the front has a chip. The recent 2 brands that I have tried seems quite good - Hoya HD and Kenko. No abovementioned problems yet.

A lot of pple effectively use UV filter as lens protector.

Why do they use a quality and expensive filter to protect the Very expensive lens? You probably did not read thru this whole thread rite. The answer is there.

A filter can potentially degrade the picture quality. On expensive lens, pple use expensive filters so that they do not "waste" their expensive lens. On cheap lens, some pple rather not put a filter.

A filter (UV), at it's best, does not degrade the picture. It could be worse.

And, regarding the cutting haze and making the sky blue. Did you read it on the net or did you actually compare picture with and w/o UV filter?

At sea level, the amount of UV probably doesn't affect the picture much in most cases (who everyday shoot the sky?). Instead of cutting down haze, using a poor quality filter probably introduce more flare and ghosting to the picture.

I've got a B+W F-Pro UV filter, but am having trouble cleaning it. There is always dust and lint that is hard to wipe off with the lenspen or microfibre cloth. I have never got it really clean at all.

Am I cleaning it right?

Thanks for the link! I never knew there was a sponge in the cap.

The brush works great on my lenses, just not so effective on the filter. Maybe its time for a vacuum? :bsmilie:

If you compare the amount of visible between the 1st place and the 3th place filter;

Hoya 72 mm HMC UV-0

Hoya 72 mm Pro1 Digital MC UV-0

B+W 72mm 010M UV-Haze MRC

The 3rd place filter allows more visible light spectrum to pass through, that is most important for digital photography. UV filter only applies to film photography for the film will react strangely with UV.

Any since the test was done on May 2009 and all the companies had came up with new UV filter, we will have to see the test for them.
