B+W filters: worth paying so much?

I am suspecting that he did not follow the steps recommended.

Haha. Okay, actually when I first got my lenspen also, I didn't know how to clean my lenspen properly. Only when I got the 2nd one then I read the instructions again... :embrass:

Why bother maybe he is shooting film where uv filtering is important. But many a time ppl just read the review without understanding it fully.

If you compare the amount of visible between the 1st place and the 3th place filter;

Hoya 72 mm HMC UV-0

Hoya 72 mm Pro1 Digital MC UV-0

B+W 72mm 010M UV-Haze MRC

The 3rd place filter allows more visible light spectrum to pass through, that is most important for digital photography. UV filter only applies to film photography for the film will react strangely with UV.

Any since the test was done on May 2009 and all the companies had came up with new UV filter, we will have to see the test for them.

Saw the recommendation here and I went ahead to contact the seller Henessy from Mass Sale to purchase a 77mm B+W filter. He advised me to go Fu Lu Shou (the address shown in his thread) to buy which I did. Upon reaching the store, I ask the lady shop owner for the filter and after she pass it to me, she started grumbling saying she has no profit for selling the filter and she is only helping a relative. I requested her to show me a 2nd filter as I noticed that the color of the 1st rim is uneven, she handled me a 2nd filter. During the process, she was very rude and asked me if I need to see more .... There were nasty remarks passed by her ... I returned the stuff to her and walk out of the shop. I immediately called Henessy to feedback of what had happened but he said there is nothing much he could do except to post on his thread that interested buyer can only inspect 3 filters. I told him I was only looking at the second filter and asked why is she behaving in such a rude manner. Henessy explained that lady is her mother and he could do nothing!!!

I just wish to share my bad experience with you guys and warned you of the situation you would face. I have paid $3 for ERP and $2.20 for car park and never did I wish such incidence to happen to myself or anyone of you. My advise is to buy from Henessy if you do not require inspection/checking of the products for you are paying $10s or $100s of dollars.

i have bought 2 from Hennesy, but never faced such problems. First time i bought is a young lady (not sure if related to Henessy, probably her sis if so), Second time with his mother i assume (quite friendly).

Either its the way you present yourself or you suay, his mother not in a good mood that day or probably someone else before you very picky.

Anyway u can buy from Visiontechnik or Eugenep from mass sales also.

after joining this forum recently, i realized i kenna carrot from one of the listed "reputable shops" for a b&w UV filter... they sold it to me for $135 and the exact same model was on sale here from those freelance dealers for like $90+

What was the filter thread diameter?Those 82mm ones can cost up to $1xx you know?

i check already, same model in this forum selling 90+ only.. and for the same price i paid at the shop, can get the same diameter but XS Slim series.. mine is the F-pro series...

really carrot.. no choice, willing buyer willing seller.. haha~

Congrats. You met the mother. It's posted on the thread by Henessy (about his mother being rude). I also encountered only young lady so no problem so far.

You were not chopped, if you paid $300 for it, the you were chopped. ;p

The price you paid is basically the market price in Singapore photo stores. It is just that Mass market people i ClubSnap are selling them a lot cheaper than the stores.

Similar as in buying lenses, sometimes you can get the same lens from USA/Hong Kong for about 15-25% lower but it is from a different channel.

and it mentioned that sensor will register UV light....

it is for the same reason that one of the tests they conducted is the uv light transmission..

Actually there isn't any problem with UV light in digital camera. the problem only lies on films. If there is a problem, it is only how much stop of light is blocked and the degrading of image when applied as a protector.

Maybe you haven't seen your canon L's , Sony G's or Carl Zeiss's front element getting scratched or your perfect composition and exposure photo getting affected because of a green/whatever-colour fringe.

Or it's rather how deep your pocket is or how willing you are to spend in photography. No right or wrong. If you have no money, don't force yourself to buy expensive filters. Some people spend $20,000 in a small Chanel leather bag and say it is worth the price.
Just live within your means. Life is short.

A qn. I have lens of different diameters and I have to get a filter for each diameter? Step-up/down ring recommended? For example to go from 67mm to 77mm, I have to get 2 rings - 67-72mm and 72-77mm. Will it cause vignetting?

BTW is 77mm a std diameter?

For me , the build quality of B+W filters alone justifies the price. It looks premium, feels premium, IS premium.. That extra 40 you pay over a Hoya is more like getting lifelong insurance against scratches..

Its worth every penny when there aren't many choices of similar performance filters available in SG considering the budget permitted. Eg the ND110.

Otherwise as a UV protector, I'll stick to the more affordable ones.

not worth. i rather spend the money for a Hoya HD even though it cost alittle more than B+W. which i actually did.
