acceptable?
how about from 5dmk2 to 5dmk3? quantum leap upgrade with the same price tag on the street?
if i'm using 5dmk2, i really don't mind to pay that amount of money for mk3 because the upgrade is a lot more significant than d700 to d800.

make it simple, it's like upsize your meal at Mcdonald. Your friend upsize get large size of fries but you get small size of fries instead. What would you feel?

Not too shabby for Nikon upgrade too!

D4 equilevent AF and metering, 3 times the megapixels, great video capabilities and dual card slots! And a bonus of 100% viewfinder coverage!

This is outright milking as much as possible from the buyers. Its really bad strategy from nikon to treat users as suckers. I think Canon did a far better and fairer job in pricing converting from US. And to hear that those shop owners claimed that they keep only 1 or 2 copy is a joke. Why not 3 or 4 but 1 or 2? This is potentially hot cake product. I as a hobbyist too want to own one. But not anymore now at this price. Buoy court it for a couple of months see if the price come down.

I believe the price will only increase since it is such in demand. Do u all think so?

I think retailers will quote less the RRP still, nobody wants to buy from a shop that sells that amount, so the competition is always who is the cheapest.

For example,

If shop A wanna take in 3 D800, they mux take in maybe 500 sets of coolpix or other dslr, which might nt b able to sell well.

I think 1 D800 is tied to a certain amt of other cameras in the initial launch n tas y nt many shops wana bring tat many in.

Perhaps in a few more mths, the situation mite improve.

Don't want to be a wet blanket, they can quote any price when they don't have stock.
The real and final price is when you have the camera and pay for it.
I second that! Sound more like old salesman tactic. When no stock is always very attractive price. Its a different story stock is back. sigh!

This is the point in time where D800 will be the most ex. Unlike lenses that has longer manufacturing life span, demands for camera bodies however, gets lesser and lesser. If u have the patience, wait for it. I'm rethinking my upgrade strategy too. Might queue for a D700 instead for now.

agree.
i will delay the upgrade or get one more d700 from BnS as backup body.

This is bad business practice. The profit gain from D800 will never cover the lug along models. If i'm a dealer I won't consider this kind of dealing.

Just checked with Cathy and they quoted price 4099 ... but don't have stock

Impossible for that pricing, they have to mark up to absorb the 90K worth of compact cams. the pricing shd be close to RRP or even at RRP.

Managed to get a copy from my fav shop earlier.

At ISO 6400, its even better than my ex D700 at 3200~! Still can see lots of details~! Drools...

Bt the file size is Whoa!!

Let the impatience cheong first. The camera is not going to be disappeared few years down the road. Personally I tend to support company that treat consumer fairly and honorably. Especially from big corporate. OK enough ranting. Started to sound like sour grape leow. ZIPPED!

Hahahah can understand your disappointment and frustration bro. Aiya to be perfectly honest, if by the time I am ready to get a D800e at year end and the price is still not in line with US prices, I might just switch systems. :-P

Totally agree with you on this.

D800E? Prepare to be chopped he he he....

Sometime must take it with a pinch of salt. How can it make any business sense with this kind of business terms. Imagine how many PNS cameras I need to sell in order to sell 10 D800? Is nikon singapore out of his mind or what. Its not viable at all in every way you look at it. Or am I plain stupid to believe this :(
