Lexus are great cars. I guess the sytem has been badly tuned.

Even in my toyota crown the system rocks. (I drive a taxi :bsmilie:) So I guess a lexus should do the job proprerly.

If you have a lack of sensations, come into my car. :bsmilie:

my family has 2 cars that comes with mark levinson audio system.i dont really find it impressive.
to me, it's really more for symphony classical.
for pop and rock, :thumbsd:
worse is, it boast 14-15 speakers in the car.i really dont feeeeeeeeeeeeeel it.

Makes sense !

But when it comes to sound, I make no compromise.

Viva ELECTROCOMPANIET! ;p

I like to decorate my house..:sticktong:bsmilie:

hey, when are you swinging by to pick me up? Need to try out the sound in your "taxi"? :)

How's going? Been shooting much lately?

If my ipod content is in a loseless format or a very high bitrate MP3, would having good earphones matter?

Yes, there is saying that goes like this, "Garbage in, Garbage out". The entire system, be it portable or home setup matters but do take note of system synergy. Having the best/most expensive components do not equate to perfect audio fidelity. Everything down the chain matters.

absolutely positively. the earbug that came with the iPod sucks. you are in for a surprise.

lsiaxon-nikongod,

what i meant was i dont even feel like the car has 14-15 speakers.
sound is clear no doubt.but when i play pop or rock music, there's virtually NO bass at all.

:bsmilie: Don't bring in car stereos...

Suggest you go to youtube and google SPL sound challenges in the US ..

Like lsisaxon had mentioned, you're not supposed to feel, but enjoy and relax to it.

The few cars i know that has such setups are (roughly):

1. SC430 from Lexus - Mark Levinson - you own one huh
2. 350Z from Nissan - Bose
3. Legacy from Subaru (upper end models) - Mcintosh
4. Lancer EX (upper end model) / Outlander - Rockford Fosgate

Also, these kind of systems are not supposed for you to "bang" but to enjoy vocals/new age/jazz/classical. Play techno/trance/dance is a big "no-no"

most of the lexus models has ML has a higher option.for the standard variants, it comes with pioneer IIRC.
SC430 old model lah.me so hip wont drive this kind of car one.:bsmilie:

i heard the mcintosh on the legacy b4.also so so only.
the RF in mitsu, imo, utterly cannot make it.i hope i wont be flamed for saying this.:embrass:

havent heard the bose system from 350z nor audi TT coupe.

yes, no doubt.lexus are great cars.

What you need is a P9R pioneer HU for ur car...purrrrfect.....

sorry guys, i forgot to mention, i started the thread with the purpose of buying one for my ipod.

so, after all the recommendations, which one should i get for my ipod?
last thing i want is to get a 1k set and realised for ipod, a $300 one is comparable because of the 'low bit mp3-or whatever?'

but shure/bose is the brand i'll go for.i dont mind the bulky shure headphones because it's a subtle sign to my colleagues that 'i do not wish to be disturbed'.:D
if i pop in the in ear ones, my hair is probably long enough to camouflage the wires.later people talk to me and they think i ignore them.:p

You have to ask yourself what is the quality of music/mp3 is in your iPod.

You're buying just for the brand name or want to get the best for your money? If you want the best for your money, its headphones liao. Only want earphones? Shure earphones can be worn with the wires behind your back. For girls wearing it, the cables can be conceal by long hair and jacket.

In my opinon, in terms of 'looks' only:
Shure have the nicest design, not too big and sits nicely in your ear.
Westone is more rugged/industral style. More stealthy and can be hidden easily.
Ultimate ears is bulky, sticks out of your ears a lot. Like Frankinstien.
Etymotic Research is just plain ugly.

If really want Shure, try E4c, SE420 or E500/SE530 if you willing to spend more. If you want E5c, then look at Westone's UM2 as well. Both are 'brothers' but with different cables.

If my ipod content is in a loseless format or a very high bitrate MP3, would having good earphones matter?

Yes. :)

with regards to bitrates and such, good earphones will exploit the amount of detail and quality of sound that is encoded by lossless and say maybe a 352kbps rating.

if you have bad earphones, i believe its just a waste of memory space on your player.

btw a point here, expensive doesnt not = good
i have heard quite a bunch of stuff that really quite bad for its price!

i myself just run around with 225 and 192 somewhere around that reigon, since on the go you wouldnt be trying to listen to every nuance of each pluck of the guitar string would you?;p

yes, no doubt.lexus are great cars.

They are.. They make good amps but that doesn't automatically mean they make the best speakers. Plus, car acoustics is a totally different beast from room acoustics.

A colleague showed me a headunit which has capabilities to import the measured acoustic data. I can't remember what brand it was. :(

Yeah.. more speakers doesn't automatically give you good bass. You'll probably need some tuned woofer to give you that.. Then again, might it be just settings?

Let's put it this way... if you have good earphones, you will be able to tell poorly encoded MP3s from the good ones.
