That's a bit more like it !
The team that had forgotten how to win suddenly remembered and came back from the dead.
Arsenal played Bolton in a monsoon, went 1-0 down, lost Diaby to a red card for a dangerous tackle, came back and won 3-2 with a goal from a corner, a penalty and a pass by Fabregas which hit one defender, then another, and trickled in.
Cesc was trying to sidefoot a pass to van Persie !!!! If you were not paying close attention you might have thought Cesc scuffed the ball with the inside of his left foot but he hit the ball where he wanted it to go. But the ball didn't go there. It went into the net off Andy O'Brien and JlLoyd Samuel.
The game started with an Arsenal eleven that had never played together, Toure at right back, Bendtner and van Persie up front. RVP is gradually regaining his match fitness, we hope.
Arsenal had three early chances.Then Matt Taylor got two goals. The first one was a header when Toure was ball watching and allowed Matt Taylor to get in front of him and head in a terrific cross by Steinsson.
Second goal, Taylors shot hit the heel of Gallas and deflected past Almunia. Clichy had made one of his risky infield passes to Flamini who was hustled by Gavin McCann and lost the ball and it went across to Taylor
You need a bit of luck in this game. Arsenal have not had much of that in the last six games. But they had some at the Reebok.
What was bizarre was playing 4-3-2 for all that time.
Arsenals style isnt even effective in a 4-4-2 formation, let alone a 4-3-2 formation. They were outnumbered in midfield and it wasnt because they had ten men. It was because they had too many at the back marking one striker.

Hleb mugged the defender by reaching a 50-50 ball first and going over, RVP converting powerfully. Then came the jammiest, flukiest Arsenal goal of the season to complete the comeback of the season.
So that was it : 10-man Arsenal edge 5-goal thriller in Reebok monsoon.
The 2008 Arsenal is all about possession, patience, fitness, and late goals.
Three games against Liverpool? Arsenal only need to win one of those three : the league game on Saturday. A 0-0 draw on Wednesday and a 1-1 at Anfield will put them through.

oh well....
but i thought it was a very entertaining and fast-paced game. we played quite well, dominated most of the game. just needed a bit more luck - denied a penalty, and a sure-goal stopped by our very own bendtner
if we can play like this the next 2 games i think we have a very good chance to make it.

We were robbed by drrty kuyt and the dutch referee!!! :angry:
And wtf was Bendtner doing? .... I think he should really STFU and concentrate on proving his WORTH to the team rather than talking to newspapers about leaving if he doesn't get to play!
imho, Walcott played well and was 'fearless'. Van Persie was good (but unlucky)..

If Bendtner was not such a berk, he would have jumped over that Fabregas shot.
If patriotic Dutch ref Vink had given a penalty against a Dutch striker, when Kuyt tugged the arm of Hleb, Arsenal would have won.
If Bacary Sagna had played, he would have tackled Stevie G and Kuyt would not have equalised.
The Bendtner incident was more significant than the Hleb-Kuyt tangle because you still have to score the penalty. Reina might save it, Ade might hit it wide.
So Arsenal need a 1-0 win at Anfield on Tuesday night. I can't see that happening. Or they need a 2-2 draw.
Fired by the injustice of last night, this team will strive mightily to beat Liverpool in the league on Saturday. Rafa will rest a few, including Torres.
Rafa's comment was ominous. He said the away goal gave him "options." By that he means, "I can make sure it's 0-0 at Anfield."

And then he plays down the middle in Rome and gets kicked to bits and comes back boldly with a mindboggling mega-leap and thumps in a monster, monster header from 12 yards.
Adebayor heads in from six yards for 1-0. Yes !! Three minutes later, Arsenal concede.

Did double Dutch cahoots deny Arsenal? By Ian Grant
There were persistent rumours about game fixing prior to the draw and match fixing after the draw which lead to some strange betting behaviour.
And the behaviour of the officials here didn't do anything to disabuse conspiracy theorists.
There was an obvious penalty on Hleb when Kuyt pulled him down right in front of the Dutch referee. Was ref Pieter Vink from Noordwijkerhout, in 'kerhouts' with Dirk Kuyt born just three miles away?
Torres was blatantly offside twice and even handballed, but still no flag went up. He dived and won a free kick against Clichy and lost the respect of Arsenal fans for his antics during the game.
Arsenal though were sloppy. Eboue the epitomy of awfulness, losing it in various ways ten times, missing a sitter, and fans around were glad he went off, some booing him off.
The Arsenal starting line up cost around £24m; Torres £26m. It was a night when the team/stadium balance started to wrankle. The starting team cost around one eighteenth of the stadium. At Highbury the team was always worth more than the stadium.
The feeling wasn't exactly helped when I tried to get half a cup of hot water to go with some tea and was told:"We have to charge you for the water."
Arsenal looked tired. Toure in particular. Adebayor has lost his early season sharpness. Arsenal missed Eduardo, as well as Rosicky and Sagna in this game.
The atmosphere wasn't vibrant, more like an angry tension. Quite a few people were late due to transport problems and others tried to get in without tickets, delaying genuine ticket holders. Maybe a reaction to the ticket scam exposed by the Evening Standard. Empty seats abounded in the Liverpool section come kick-off.
After that Liverpool fans were a bit bouncy singing their pirate ditty. Arsenal replied with a rendition of: "Sign-on, sign-on..." and "...hoof the ball," along with a couple of well know Arsenal songs.
Liverpool lined up in a defensive 4-3-2-1 with Torres the lone striker. Senderos came into the centre, with Toure switching to the right.
It was like playing a black blanket at times. First chance was when Adebayor ran past Reina in the corner, but lacked control and composure to knock it past.
Arsenal forced a couple of corners which were cleared, but on 20 Flamini sent a brilliant ball over the Liverpool defence which dropped on to Van Persie's left, but as at Bolton, he opted for a first time shot, and his match shooting lacks co-ordination and he skied it. A little direction-shifter may well have scored.
Soon after Fabregas found Van Persie in space, but this time he didn't connect, and although on target, Reina saved relatively easily.
Arsenal pressure mounted, and on 23, Fabregas and Van Persie fashioned a short corner with the Dutchman bending a ball which Adebayor guided unchallenged into the empty net. It is a while since Adebayor has scored, and a bit surreal. He's a goal sequence player - so that may prove to be more valuable than it looks.
Two minutes later a bad rebound of Flamini, found Gerrard, running deep into the Arsenal area, and after beating Toure and Eboue, his dangerous cross found Kuyt and Clichy racing in, with the Dutchman getting the last touch, for that all important away goal.
It had the effect of dampening things. Arsenal hardly had a chance of note for the rest of the half. In fact Babel was the only player to test a goalkeeper in that period.
Van Persie's departure for the rest of the game at half-time was met with disbelief from fans around. "Not again", or some such thinking. But Theo Walcott was greeted with enthusiasm, most wanting him on for the inept Eboue.
Like at Bolton, Almunia kept Arsenal in the tie with a sharp save, low down, as Hypia won a knock down, for Kuyt to angle a shot.
Walcott, was troubling Carragher, who gave a foul away.
Soon after with the Liverpool defence back-pedalling he unleashed a piledriver just past Reina's post.
Liverpool showed their strength in depth and different attacking options as Benayoun replaced Babel, who said last yeat he'd play for Arsenal.

World class finishers starts at 25mil pounds onwards....
Thats not AW management style and I doubt we would see Arsenal FC to spend this kinda money on just one player for the near future.
We still have a stadium loan to finance and we should be fine unless we start behaving like Leeds United...

to me, this season is a goner aldy.. what should have been our title is now slipping through our hands at an alarmingly rate - too many draws.. i feel the turning point was the Birmingham game when Eduardo got injured. Arsenal never looked the same from that minute on...
i was very used to critics saying the team is too young to challenge and had always believed that if u r good enough, age doesnt matter... but as i watched yesterday's game, i got this feeling that the critics may be right - young players lack the composure and experience to dictate the game and arsenal were losing balls too often.. they panicked and succumb to pressure too easily
hope AW knows what he has to do for next season and bring in some experienced campaigners... not necessary be big spenders, just steady performers.. and oh, pls offload eboue.. this guy just turned me off with his everything....

But we came back to win Bolton 3-2, and came back to draw 1-1 with Liverpool.
I am not a dreamer, playing at Anfield and getting a good result this Tuesday is going to be a tall order, but Arsenal always performs the unexpected when we are down on our luck and our backs are against the wall. Who says supporting Arsenal is always easy? ;p

Tonite is the nite... we have to make the best of this opportunity, get pass Liverpool and into the semi-final.
