Arsenal won the first game, 2-1 to Fulham ... it's a close one ... :sweatsm:

Time to try out the new goal keeper... Lemons is getting horrible.

I bet Theo walcot gona get a lashing from wenger. Could haf really made it 3-1 if not for his selfish act in injury time. Balloon it over bar when he could haf passed to RVP to score... :

Ya it was lucky.... The last min goal got all the gunner supporters screaming at the coffeeshop.
My friend (Man Utd supporter) commented 咸鱼oso can 翻身...

lol his own team drawn with 10 man reading ! :bsmilie:

At least we got the "blunder of the season" outta the way :D

Good signs.
1. The team was ready to graft and fight for each other.
2. Hleb really look like he's up for the challenge (and his target for 10 goals this season).
3. V.Persie looks like he would take a step up and shoulder more scoring responsibility.
4. We dominated the game.
5. Rosicky would score with a thunderbolt from outside the box soon.
6. Cesc is up for it.

Bad signs.
1. Some of the Arsenal passing is not up to standard yet, but will improve.
2. We need someone to get into the box to recieve those crosses!!!

Good start with a hard earned win against another London team. And Spurs lost! ;)

Gilberto: No-one told me about Arsenal captaincy

Gilberto Silva was stunned by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger's decision to hand William Gallas the club captaincy.

"Of course I was surprised because I was captain all last season when Henry didn't play, and after his move to Barcelona I naturally thought I would be this time," he told the Daily Star.

"Arsene is the manager and it is his decision and I have to accept that. Life goes on and I will get on with my job like I always have.

"But I was surprised he didn't speak to me about his decision. He had the time to do it because I was at the training ground before it was made public.

"He didn't say anything to me and I just found out about it that evening when I saw it on the Arsenal website.

"I wasn't upset about not being captain, but I was about the way I learnt about it."
He added: "I will give the same commitment to the club that I always have. This is an important season."

This guy is hurting really bad at being passed over for captaincy. He stood in and did a great job as a fill-in captain and now that the armband is available, he doesnt event get a clarification from AW.

No matter who the captaincy eventually goes to, this is no way to treat a man, more so someone who has been giving his all for the last few years without even a complaint. Gilberto has been professional throughout his arsenal days and I can't help but point the finger at AW and say "for once, you're wrong here.' It's a total lack of respect and although Gilberto has no god given right to claim the captaincy, AW should at least knew that the rest of the team will look to Gilberto as the undisputed new captain..

*shake head* so wrong ... the way it was conducted..

looks like AW is aldy planning Gilberto's exit...

Bernie Ecclestone (F1 supremo) will take over the Gunners (100% stake) ;)

I think Stan Kronke is better suited to lead Arsenal than him.. I wasn't impressed by Ecclestone comments "Will consider buying Arsenal is it is cheap enough". WTF!

actually i'm also not sure if the present setup is gd enough and how much harm/benefits Stan or Ecclestone will bring... I'm not sure what to believe as to why wenger wont splash the case - one one hand, directors are saying there's cash, on the other, wenger says no need. So even if a takeover does occur and a blank chq is given to wenger, would he use it? would he continue the way he is now buying cheap young players and nurturing them? in that case, not much effect a takeover will have on arsenal, rite?

The main change would probably be felt at boardroom level where the old stubborn stooges will be ousted and replaced by more passionate, ambitious personnel like Dein or some young chaps who are driven by profits.. which is better?

:dunno:

:) I wish to know too.. wat's on wenger mind.

I would like to see money being injected but I am not sure whether if a takeover would be a

good move for the club in the long term...

Personally I dun tink gilberto has the leadership to captain arsenal. William gallas seemed a

better choice. :) I believe he gona go during the jan transfer window.

Hey great to see some comments coming in.. ;)

I rather things remain the same in terms of the ownership of Arsenal. The Board have done well so far and they are there because they LOVE the club. Fact: None of the board members have taken any divident although they are entitled to. David Dein took divident because he is working full time on Arsenal.

But if a choice is to be made, I rather Stan Kronke takes over. I think he could take Arsenal to the next level. I read an article somewhere about why Stan is the man for Arsenal.. will try to dig it up...

I found the article, A look at Kroenke's empire, rather long article but its worth a read if you wanna know what kind of person he is. I think he is a better candidate that Bernie.

The Gunners won this morning!!! Sparta 0 2 Arsenal

I truly think Gilberto deserves to be the captain.
But I think AW chose Gallas is because he wants to keep Gallas at the club.
Previously Gallas is a bit doubtful of the club's capabilities and was even thinking of leaving.

I think Gilberto should be captain too since he helped to steady the ship when TH14 was missing.

But Gilberto is still injuried, why name someone as captain who can't lead the team in the field now?

Gallas looks like a good choice, Arsenal needs a badass character as captain, too long we have been pussycats coz TH14 as captain is a pussycat... I hope appointing Gallas as captain is a masterstroke from AW. ;)

i also feel that wenger gave captaincy to gallas to entice him to stay. thats what he did with henry. while i agree gilberto deserves to be captain given his excellent stand-in performance last season, i think gallas has the ability to be a good captain too.

on goalkeeping...i think a good replacement for lehman needs to be found soon. he's too much of a hothead to be in the squad.

Gone are the days when an arsenal captain stays with the club till the end of his career.
Vieria gone , then Henry, and likely going too, Gallas.

Gallas has shown before that he would not hesitate to speak out against Arsenal's (or ex-club Chelsea) management, I doubt giving him the captaincy will do much to make him stay. If we don't win anything this season, I would not be suprised to see him asking for transfer.

As for Lehman, everytime he recieves a backpass, my heart would skip a beat.

oops...he did it again! nb that lehman....too lax and overconfident.

on a brighter note, man u lost and liverpool/chelsea draw :bsmilie:

Arsenal were against a mid-table team... its should have gotten the 3 points.

I think AW should bench lemons. I hate him

time to get boruc!

Only two weeks in and there is just a single team left with a 100% record, Man City...
Simply amazing..

If this means that the tittle race will be closer than last season, i.e. top teams dropping points against the others, i guess its not a bad trend.

As for Lehman, Wenger does not usually have a policy of benching regular players, not sure how long till his patience runs out.

Bench him. I hate him.

Last match 1st minute blunder was already bad enuff. His latest one was a complete letdown.

Look at the speed of the ball. It wasn't curling much or neither packed much of a punch.

Amazingly he just flap at it and the ball just bounced straight into the net.

I hope AW can absorb wat Roy keane said previously in an interview

'the backbone of the team starts from the goalie.'
