Are you satisfied with the 50 1.2L?

Wth? MS Powerpoint? You don't know what that does to your image sharpness?

You do know that in the, imho, quite stubborn effort to stay away from image processing software, you are sort of being quite.. weird? What you do is comparable to using Windows Media Player to view text documents.

EDIT: With regards to the AF, I understand that the 85 1.2II's MF is done by you turning the focus ring and the lens electronically moves the focus elements. Is that the case of the 50 1.2L as well?

Cheers

Well Headshotzx, in the very beginning i already said that i don't do any PS or even use any of these software for my pics as i always use out of the cam. So cheapskate method is to use MS Powerpoint lor. :bsmilie:

Even if you don't do PP, there are always better, free resources to do resizing, among other things.

There is no need to use a lousier tool to do the job, just simply to stay away from Photoshop and other imaging software.

Never used any form of photo editing software, just Powerpoint.

sorry, i usually don't post here, and i don't mean to be nosey.

but i'm really interested how to use powerpoint to resize pictures.. can save as jpg there?

It is reported on the internet that the 50 1.2L has bad back-focussing issues.

I dont find that true from what i shoot.

Then i found out that the focussing issue can sometimes be the camera problem.

For those in doubt, send your "camera" for calibration and you will be surprised that it can go off. This is rare, but it happens!

I do find the 50 more hand-holdable than the 85 for very low light shoot. I believe I can do 1/30 with the 50, but not with the 85.

It's logical to expect there will be some level of focus tweak require for lens with f1.2. If you understand manufacturing process and the concept of stack tolerance, you know it's quite challenging to have such good control between camera/sensor/mount/lens mount/optics so many various elements to be totally align. Of course I do question Canon QC in this... One clever idea Canon came up with is the AF micro adjust for their newer DSLR. This actually a huge cost savings for Canon. First, they reduce numbers of customer complain on front/back focusing, because now they can fine tune themself. Second, they reduce the CSC cost by not have to waste resources on helping customer calibrate lens to camera. Third, they can now blame the user for wrongly micro-adjust the lens/camera, resulting in poor AF :)

Anyway, for your f1.2/f1.4 L lenses, just bring it down and ask to calibrate, they will do it for you. They did it FOC for mine.

Nope. 50 1.2L is not MF by wire.

Nice and sharp

Played with the 85 1.2L II quite a bit and no focusing issues at all. Btw isn't the micro-adjustment custom function just to offset the focusing by a fixed value in general?

Micro adjustment works well for prime lens, but zoom lens really need to send for calibration. It does correct back/front focusing for a particular zoom range, but not the entire range.

Nvm lah, i'll just stay with what i'm using.

U select your layout to blank, then insert the pic and it'll appear on the blank slide. Then simply just move your mouse around to resize the pic. After doing that, right-click and save your picture in wherever u want to save.

:D Actually, I'm also guilty of doing these when I'm working as my company does not have a lot licence for photoshop and the likes and the only softwares available is the $%^& lousy Photo Editor and Powerpoint....;p

Yeah, they're very easy to use as well. I don't do PS and also don't frequently post pics or resize them so i don't see the need of getting a photo editing software.

I thought the 50 1.2L's focusing issue was only near MFD (that's what I read online) so doesn't that mean if you use the micro-adjustment everything else is off focus? :dunno:

50 F1.2L is a prime lens not a zoom lens.

When you buy your camera, it comes with many good photoediting software, why do you have to buy. There are free photo editing software if you are "poor". Why use powerpoint?:dunno:

Ya, althought i dont normally post in CS also, but i am very very curious too.

I am extremely amaze...how to use powerpoint to resize a jpg file?
I have problem teaching my students using 'sophisticated' software to edit photos, ur method sound very easy.

Hey Snoweagle aka Brian, please give intructions on how to get it done. Some print screen of the progress will be appreciated.;)

Precisely. It's like you say you don't have money to buy a hammer so someone gives you a free hammer to hammer nails into a wall, but you insist on using a wooden block.
