Yeah it was the first lens that started me on this Zeiss craze! Focusing was never a problem with my EG-S screen in my 5D2. However I was never big on Macro so doesn't justify me keeping it. Having the 28mm ZE and Leica R 80/1.4 to keep my 5D2 company now.

Yeah I agree. The Zeiss was so good that I ditched my L lenses almost immediately. To hell with the AF! :P

It's a Zeiss, bro. I'm never gonna ditch my Planar 50-1.7.

Yeah man!!! AF is so over rated. Was so afraid that all my shots will be blur if I change to MF initially. Ended up I got more keepers instead!

This Distagon 55/1.4 is a mysterious lens. It has 12 elements, contains aspherical surface, 300 degrees focusing throw, 82mm front element. That's about all I managed to find out. And yes, it cost US$4k!

The cutout distance scale window. Does it means AF?

Then suddenly Sony releases a new Planar 50/1.4 ZA SSM but only has 8E5G. Even if the 55/1.4 is not AF, are we close to see a 50mm AF soon?

This is one uberlicious lens! But the price is also uberliciously expensive! Wow!

But then, the Leica lenses are also very expensive and yet it have a long waiting list. This lense is how many times bigger than a M lens may be worth the money after all! :P

No it's not AF.
there are no plans for AF lens for E and F mounts.
the only ones are those coming out later part of this year for Sony and Fuji.

Just a noob hobbyist bro. I still have much to learn from the gurus here. :)

AF to me is over-rated. I was so afraid of taking the plunge into MF initially cos I am genuinely worried about all my photos being blur. However once I bought my first Zeiss (50MP), I found that I love my photos even more! In the end I have more keepers compared to when I had my EF lenses. Ended up I sold all my AF lenses and only have two MF lenses in my kit now. That's why "to hell with AF!" :P

I helped my friends previously to take some photos at their weddings. One was using AF and the latest one was MF lenses. No points for guessing which set of photos I like more. :) I think it can be done to use MF for pro work. Some people like the Leica guru Thorsten Overgaard even take fashion shows with his Leica RFs and the effects are fabulous.

No right and wrong I guess. The best tools are the ones in our hands so just go out and shoot! To hell with AF/MF!

There is really nothing wrong with AF, its just that Zeiss lenses are at or near the pinnacle of lens design IMO.
I think what you got hooked up on was the bokeh and sharpness of ZE lenses and the "pop" factor that usually accompanies them.

However MF isn't suitable for all situations. Unless you really know your lenses and predict/anticipate what's going to happen and prepare for it. Otherwise AF is certain quicker and more suited for event photography. You should not just dismiss all AF lenses, there are exceptions. ;)

Think you have the wrong idea Bro. I wasn't dissing AF per se. There is a definitely use for AF for sure and I am aiming for the Contax N lenses converted by Conurus for use on my 5D2.

Was replying to Bro Panaromic who informed that he knew many pros who switched to AF. What I am trying to say is that I know of people like Thorsten Overgaard who shoot professionally with MF; but these are few and far between. Agreed that those who do shoot professionally with MF definitely must know their lenses well and predict/anticipate what's going on but it is not impossible. I know of one bro here in CS, mamypoko who shoot triathletes using his 5D2 and manual lenses and gotten great results!

Good plan, one of the best lenses, came out as entry-level but turned out to be a diamond. You can even use it on a Leica M digital or film camera ... *hint ;)

Here it is mounted on one of the grandparents, a Contax 139Q. Zeiss knows how to collaborate with different companies ...
