Er...if introducing new product, why not just post a new thread?

Hi all,

Shriro Singapore is the proud distributor of Carl Zeiss lens in Singapore.
If you guys don't mind, I would like to use this thread to introduce new products.

Yup CY mount! My first leap onto the Zeiss bandwagon along with a CZ Jena 135mm 3.5. Don't think I'm ever getting off :p

It's one of d best bang for bucks Zeiss lens tat performs awesomely. Prefer this over d 50-1.4 version.

The first three fixed focal lengths of this new lens family (autofocus) will be 2.8/12, 1.8/32 and a 2.8/50 macro, each with E mount (for Sony NEX cameras) and X mount (for Fujifilm X-Pro cameras).
The 1.4/55mm is still a manual focus lens.
There will be a APO-Sonnar T* 2/135 coming up in March (hopefully no delays).

APO Sonnar 135/2? M mount?

Hi Thoth,

It was be available in ZE and ZF2.

Oic. Disappointed no M mount variant. Zeiss seems to alwayz produce M mount lenses. Weird.

Hi Mogwai,

If you really need to know the reason.... it's for convenience.
Carl Zeiss lens appeal to a very niche market and we believe this is where the market is :)
Since there is already a thread, we have decided to just tag along with it.
We have created a completely new thread for KATA/Manfrotto bags and there will be a few more coming up this Friday for some new products that we have brought in this year.

I noticed there is no thread here showcasing Zeiss images. So I'll start one. Anything from the modern Zeiss, Sony ZA to the vintage Contax, Rollei. I would think there is also space for Hasselbald 645, Contax 645, Ikon M39, Contax G and Zeiss Jena. Film scanned or digital. In short, anything to do with Zeiss. While other forums are going bonkers over Zeiss, I cannot believe that there isn't a single thread here on it.

Shall we?

[edit] To make it more meaningful, do include the exif info and a few thoughts on your subject and lens used.

It's also convenient for users - your potential customers - to have threads specific to each lens/ product you wish to introduce.

That way, information/ discussions about a specific lens/ product does not get watered down as the thread builds up.

Also, as you can see, this thread was created for showcasing images.

Kenneth, I noticed that you are buying almost every lens that can be mounted on Canon. How does these Zeiss ZEs compare to the newer nano coated Canon lenses?

Still far from every lens lah...
Distagon T* 2,8/15

and I didn't buy the 35mm F1.4. This shop is a 2nd hand dealer that also has new lenses. I borrowed this lens and took some test shots to see the effect.
Personally I find the 35f1.4 too heavy...gosh my arm aches...lol and I would prefer the 35f2 instead if I were to get this FL, but my next target is the 100MP.

As for comparison with Canon lenses - I'm not sure which are nano coated. If you can let me know, I could give a better reply.

My bad, should be SWC. I believed started from the 100L macro which includes 70-200/2.8 IS MkII, 24-70/2.8 MkII, etc. I have seen some images and the contrasts are very much improved over the older Canon lenses. I am also seeing an excellent Sigma 35/1.4. I have not been fidgeting with gears lately so wonders if Zeiss still has an edge over these new lenses where micro-contrasts and 3D pop are concerned.

Ok, I've used the 70-200II and 21 on my recent trip to Beijing, etc... IMO the 70-200 II does have that ability to make the subject stand out and has extremely nice colors, similar and comparable to Zeiss. That is one exceptional lens. No experience with the 24-70 or the 100macro, but I doubt the 100macro will match the 100MP, that lens is my next target. :)

ZE 100/2 @ f2. I find the 100MP to have a more subdued colour and the bokeh is smooth (very similar to Voigtlander 125), making it not only suitable for macro but also for portraits. Note that the green cast is due to the window pane above.

ZE 35/2 @ f2. The 35/2 OTOH is sharp. IMO, more suitable for general photography, less suitable for closed up portraits of human. It has plenty of pop.

Thanks for the pics, nice...

So MWP, are you planning to keep the 35f2 or go for the Sigma 35f1.4?
The examples I've seen of the 100MP were ;p :o its like a perfect lens if there was such a thing...

I have not kept both lenses. My main application is to take portrait of my family. I felt the 35/2 contrast to be too strong and unflattering for human subjects. If you hv the patience to pp to reduce contrast and soften it, it is wonderful. I don't. I actually like CY35/1.4 but yet to find one in my price bracket.

My only complain of 100MP since I do not do macro. The focusing throw of a macro lens to be unsuitable for tracking moving subjects. So I am anticipating the 135/2 APO. It is also a bit farther to my 85mm.

Kenneth and MWP, I got the EOS converted Contax N 100mm Macro about 2 months ago and have yet to find the time to really test the lens. I am still on overseas assignment and will be back next week. If any of you guys are interested to test this lens, I am glad to loan the lens to you when I am back.
