About 3ft away from her. Yeah I was actually wondering why you sold off your existing piece When you posted that pic I was truly awed.

There are a few reasons. Firstly, I discovered there are multi-coating variations. The latter serial numbers being purplish while the earlier serial number being greenish. Not sure on the impact on the IQ though. Secondly, I find it to be better for 3m and above distances. Closer distance, the Sigma 50 to be excellent. I am mainly using my 50mm for closer distance shots. Thirdly I put in an order for the N85. So with 17-35 and 85 covered, I am not sure if I have use for a 50. In any case, I still have an unconverted copy so it is just conversion and months of waiting to get it back.

C/Y Carl Zeiss Planar T* 50mm f1.7 on Contax ST with Kodak Portra VC 160

Hi, anyone used a Zeiss 50/1.4 with an adapter on micro 4/3 system? I am thinking of the difference between using the Nikon version and the Canon version (ZF.2 and ZE). Understand that the latter has no aperture ring. But can aperture be controlled electronically in m4/3 system?

TIA

Nope.

Not m4/3 but there has been an interesting work on NEX which is in its final phrase.

Hey thanks.

Actually I am asking if the ZE be used with aperture wide open (e.g. F1.4) regardless of the actual aperture used (e.g. F8.0) as this will help with the brighter screen on the m4/3.

You can only use ZE wide open since you won't be able to electronically stop down the aperture. The lens will be wide open regardless of what you dial in.

Thanks for your reply. Looks like I should aim for the Contax/Yashica mount Zeiss 50 and 100 versions to save some significant money.

Hi All, I have a zeiss 50mm 1.7. Love the lens... just shot these today (my son)...Can anyone tell me where to get it converted to Canon mount and roughly how much will it cost.

I agree, unless you plan to get an EOS body in the near future. The C/Y versions of the Zeiss 50mm are smaller and lighter too (especially the F1.7). The ZE versions would be somewhat disproportionately big when paired with a NEX. Don't forget the C/Y or EOS to NEX adaptor would also 'add' another few cm of protrusion from the NEX lens mount.

If size is a concern, then go for the ZM lenses! :)

I suggest to just use with adapter. Else u can buy a leitax mount or send the lens to Jim Buchanan. Both will cost ard $200

Looks like something interesting is really coming from Conurus - EF to NEX adapter, making NEX an interesting backup or travel body for those with EF lenses. Another reason to pick up and convert those Contax N lenses.
