Actually there should be an adapter that allows af. I saw the youtube video. But I cant seem to find it to purchase it..
Right now I am using metabones adapter. No af.

I did a search. The adapter with AF is from Deo-Tech but does not seem readily available. Looking at the design, it should work mechanically on FE mount as well but not sure about the electronics part. Hesitant to jump on it before likely surge in demand.....

Just to revive this thread a bit. These shots were taken last weekend using the Contax N Makro Sonnar 100mm. Hope you guys enjoy this.

From some angle, this model looks like Kate Winslet of Titanic; the thinner version.

So, which picture do you like? Hmmmm...

Any macro shots with the Contax N 100mm macro?

I haven't done any macro since last Sentosa flowers with Kenneth. However, if you want to see the comparison of the ZE100mm Makro Plannar and Contax N100mm Makro Sonnar, Kenneth has posted in page 26 - post #515 of this thread.

Any macro shots with the Contax N 100mm macro?

Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.

Bro, selling all your Contax N lenses?

This thread is going to be quiet for a while till Sony A7/A7R is released, I think. :)

So many Zeiss owners waiting to test their lenses on the Sony A7/R...

Ha ha …. the last WTS post on my Contax N might need to be adjusted:

1. N17-35 - I will keep this for a while until I get a good replacement for a landscape lens
2. N85 - Will want to sell this. Not using much as I prefer to use the N100 as a portraiture lens
3. N100 - Selling this copy as I have one more copy at Conurus, waiting for conversion

I still have the N24-85 as my general walk-around lens and N50 as my low-light lens.

Same here as of now most used is the N24-85mm for all events.

Dunno should get a Metabone EF-NEX adapter now or wait for early adopters to test using it on A7. The Metabone website did mentioned that A7 is already supported though unsure to which extent.

Can't wait to use the Contax N on A7. :)

I got the metabones speed booster for EF-Nex; using it for Nex 7. Can only use manual/peaking focus for my N lenses. The speed booster does well for Canon L lenses, with AF (slow) and maintaining IS.

My Q to Conurus got the below reply for the EF-NEX adapter,

"With adapter firmware version 18 (May 2013), autofocus has been enabled for NEX-5R and NEX-6, for all lenses with distance information support (which includes all Contax N lenses) .........

We have found the NEX-5R and NEX-6 to have an improved AF algorithm over previous models which makes accuracy with legacy lenses designed for phase-detect DSLRs much better than before, and also Metabones' own AF accuracy has improved. "

It appears that Contax N may be able to AF via the adapter. (not sure about SB though)

Does it means that AF for Contax N has been enabled on the 3rd version of EF-Nex smart adapter? Hmm, sounds interesting.

Got a reply from Zeiss regarding adapting ZMs on Sony mirror less. A little bit disappointing. But the key is 'perfect match and best image quality', so maybe with a little bit compromise can still consider .....

One thing, Rollei is so advance, their wide angle 40/2.8 HFT Sonnar is digital ready so many years back! : D No wonder the 35mm on latest Sony are all Sonnar design rather than Biogon or Distagon .......

Dear Mr. Chang,

Thank you for your inquiry to ZEISS.

Like all M-mount lenses, our ZM lenses are developed for analogue and digital M-mount rangefinder cameras. They work perfectly on the digital Leica M models (e.g. M8, M9 and M).

Because all other mirrorless digital cameras (e.g. Sony E-mount bodies) cannot really handle the step chief ray angles of compact wide-angle M-mount lenses, there will appear a certain amount of vignetting and color shading with those cameras.
So we cannot really recommend to adapt any M-mount lens below 35mm focal length to a mirrorless camera.
For perfect matching and best image quality, we recommend to use dedicated wide-angle lenses or adapted SLR-lenses on mirrorless cameras.

Hoping to be of service to you we kindly ask you to contact us again should you need further assistance.

Sincerely,
Bertram Hoenlinger

Something lost in translation. What did the German guy mean by "step chief ray angles"

Not an issue for those who can buy one UWA lens made for mirrorless - and just use the rest of their existing lenses from 35mm onwards.

So this probably burst the myth of the effectiveness of Sony's offset micro-lenses when UWA M-mount lenses are used.

Nevertheless, the words "adapted SLR-lenses" ring music to my ears.

Thanks for posting this reply.

This has been a known issues for years with Leica. In fact, even with the DMR, the Kodak ccd had offset microlens. But the latest CMOS sensor in the M240 does not have offset microlens. Instead it has elliptical microlenses with shallow photodiode sites. When I disabled lens recognition, in the M240, there is some colour shifts in the corners with my 21mm lens. With lens recognition on, this is eliminated. Therefore, there is some sort of in camera correction.

Zeiss will have to design their new E-mount mf lenses to be telecentric to avoid colour sfift and smearing problems. It looks like the A7R is not for me since I have these M wide angle lenses.
