Anything Zeiss....

I am thinking of moving to a FF DSLR and playing with Zeiss lenses.

Anyone can share any experience regarding ease of MF with Nikon (eg. D600/D800) and Canon (eg. 6D/5D3).

Using some Zeiss lenses since D3/D700 erra... The original bright Matt screen is sufficient to do MF and with the AF confirmation dot (green dot) will help to nail the focus pt.

Some users they have installed 3rd party screens like catzeye or brightscreen with split focus prism to aid in faster MF which is useful but price for a coated piece of roughly stamp size plastic cost at least SGD$200.

Depending on which focal length of lens are you getting and your subject focusing distance will then decides for yourself if u need additional focusing screen to use for faster MF after you have got either of systems with ZF/ZE lenses and some usage.

Good luck and take your time to choose the lenses as they are not getting affordable in near future.

For Canon, you can get Contax N Lenses Contax Cameras UK Limited
and sent to Home for conversion. You still have AF :thumbsup::thumbsup:
Having fun with my 5D3 and many of these Converted Contax N lenses to EOS. :vhappy::cheergal:
PM me if you want to know more.

5D with Carl Zeiss Tele-Tessar F4 200mm (Manual lens thru eos>c/y adapter) @ full aperture

MV Outdoor Shoot 4.9.2010 043 by Leon Liew (Zeisser2008), on Flickr

That's before up grading to converted Carl Zeiss N lenses

Nice shot, good/clear separation of subject between foreground and background.

Will need PS to blur out the background so that makes it looks like a F1.4 blur... Hehe

Thanks. Actually it is @ full aperture F4 200mm. Guess you saw the exif which states 1.4 @ 50mm. At that time was testing out the 5D, a rented cam with
my manaul Zeiss lens to ensure that my switch to digital is possible. The adapter used was only for AF confirmation but have since bought a programe able adaptor to record
accurate exif info. Note a dark spot on the child's face it's dirt that's what one get from rented stuff:)

Try resisting the urge to buy for a long time but fail.
Finally give in in got myself a Zeiss ZF 50mm f1.4 AIS.

Looking forward to see the difference between mine Nikon 50mm AIS and the Zeiss. Hope not to be disappointed

Welcome to the world of Zeiss! I am pretty sure you will not be disappointed with your new purchase.

I was "poisoned" to Zeiss lenses barely one month after I took up photography 6 months ago. The "poison" started from my first purchase of the 50mm Planar ZE about 5 months ago. Since then, the Planar stays on my 5D2 body about 70% of the time.

The "poison" soon became contagious and thanks to brothers MWP, Fredrick and the rest in this thread, I now have 5 EOS converted Contax N lenses, which is AF-enabled. I prefer Zeiss lenses over Canon in terms of its color rendition, tonality and vibrancy that makes the subjects alive. I have since sold most of my Canon L lenses and have replaced them with the Contax N and have never been happier.

Enjoy your Zeiss!

Welcome to the Zeiss family. Perhaps you could share some pictures though :)

Mine Nikon 50mm F1.4 AIS actually produces very pleasing images with nothing really to complaint about
I got th the Zeiss to satisfy mine curiousity after reading so much of good review in this thread.

Hope that all the good reviews by fellow Zeissers are true and not over rated hot air.

This is one of my first shot with the Planar 50 f1.4mm ZE about 5 months ago. The "pop" amazes me.

This shot is taken candidly when I just acquired the Contax N 50mm f1.4 about 2 days ago.

* Sorry for the not so good photos. Still a newbie.

The following 2 photos were taken with the Contax N 28-80 at Yangon and MBS respectively. The above 2 potraits of my wife and daughters above was strait out of the camera, without editing (I don't know how to PP potraits :D ) Both the landscape photos were post processed using light room to bring out the sky and sea effects. Sorry, still learning on PP. Pardon me if the quality is not up to standard.

I am surprised to see the sharpness of the N28-80 despite it is the most lightweight (in terms of cost) of all the 9 Contax N lenses. I have not tested the N17-35 as the past couple of weeks have been raining and the skies are gloomy and hazy. Will be glad to post pictures once I have a chance to get a good capture from the lens.

Yes ...... the N24-85 is a superb lens and superior to the N28-80. I am still waiting for bro MWP to sell me his. He he ....... ;)

It's not matter of 'over rated hot air' it's what one believes in a system which gives satisfaction. One chose a system becoz you believe in it. I never compare
as long as I feel that the lens gives me what I want that's it or else it will never end.
