He claimed to be a "student of the arts" and yet when someone criticizes his work he gets super defensive and puts them down, quoting every 'artist' he can think of which his work is emulating... super big ego and a super big chip on his shoulder.. always provides comic relief to read his posts on P&P section

It is not about offending mods my friend. Mods cannot get personal because the other mods will then moderate him instead. We have to impartial. Just that the good doc, while being a good photographer, worded some of his opinions a little too strongly. This is a community and we have to adhere to community living. If one cannot get along with a community online, they make their own website and moderate the comments on their blog/comments page. That is how it works.
i miss his presence so much. he is so funny with his arty pictures and all his quoting the works of his artist friends... blah blah....
no doubt his competence in photography, but i think he is no where better than any of us like what *** boy said. (*** boy also spew crap most of the time but not as obnoxious nowadays)

This is the absolute example, thanks for proving my point by using silly phrases like "kissing ass". There is no reason why anyone would want to kiss another anonymous stranger's ass on the Net. No reason, absolutely.
It's not as if he's posting deliberately crappy photos and saying it's art. No. There are artistic merits, and if you refuse to see it by sticking to your godawful rules and rigid mindframes.. Then well, I can't change you. But I can say that it sucks to be you!

Let me explain my views, I wonder if any of the people here who speak up against student have ever defended our wonderful irl equivalent in the form of Dr Chee. Now, I do not agree with his ways. But he is just necessary, in a sense, we need our mavericks.
If people in Singapore can make big hoo-ha about how we need alternative voices in our government even when the quality presented to us is unforgiveably inferior - simply for the sake of having a voice, then I, for one, would tend to think that people like student are NEEDED here. Shrug. But of course, everyone has double standards!
While I believe that 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder' I did not agree with the way student puts down his detractors. Whilst he claimed to be just a 'student' and 'still learning' he was quick to defend his work by name dropping and using big words to imply that those who did not agree with his 'vision' were not sophisticated enough to understand his work (I remember his ass and saint peering into a mirror analogy).
As to your reference to my immaturity... hahah. I know where I stand. I think many people kissed his ass and buttered up to him because he had nice cameras, was a high profile surgeon..whatever... its all herd mentality to me.

If asked, student will give answers to how an effect was produced and why.
Ok, student can be caustic in some replies but, to those that provoked it.
There are many great tallents here in CS and I admire many that share their work, but ....

the challenge to see without the rules.
I agree that student "is" a student. Take a look at the styles that have evolved in his time here.
The man is on a constant experimenting/learning curve.
Have we had our eyes and minds challenged in the same way since :dunno:
