Anyone hit or dropped their camera/lens before?

my new canon7D with 17-55mm lens bounced off a jeep when i was in vietnam.
heart almost stopped beating from the shock after hearing the two loud thuds.

lucky nothing cracked. only a bad scrape on the bottom of the camera body. but i had to use the camera with fear for the next few days for fear of 'internal injuries'

dropped my 16-35 from chest level during my overseas trip and the bayonet/base got smashed. horrors. i was so angry with myself i was about to throw it into the bin cos i thought that was the end of the lens. luckily my friends asked me to bring back to canon to see if can salvage. in the end, everything (glass elements etc) was intact and it only cost me $80 to get a new bayonet/base. whew.

i think insurance only covers loss..not wear and tear or accidental drops

dropped a 50 mm f/1.8 lens before and now i know what it looks like internally. dropped another 300d before which survived the fall from the car seat with minimal scratch marks. well, depends on how it's dropped right?

Nice way to learn the internal optics of a 50mm

many times (i am a clumsy person) but the worst was the 50mm f/1.4 dropping face down with body on top of a marble floor of a toilet (i also don't know why the cap wasn't on) loud bang and for some reason, the focusing ring ONLY started getting stuck when a few days before i was to return to singapore. a blessing in disguise, but it's recently gotten stuck again, i'm guessing it's now a recurring problem :(

happened to me with my old f/1.8 too

While I was still in Nikon camp, I dropped my D200 + 24-70 while skiing. The camera flew about 3m into ice but everything worked perfectly and escaped unscathed.

I dropped my 50mm f/1.8 and now it can full time manual focus!! Only that it is not as sharp as when it is at f/1.8....

huh, did you inform the new owner that you drop the camera and lens before selling to him?

Like I said,
nobody will know the difference,
because it is no scratch and function normally,
I already bring it to Canon and they said it is working fine and normal

I think I already did what it should :D

But i really think that CANON lens and camera(5D CLassic) have some shockproof or drop proof?

I have 2 interesting true story to tell...

I once held a EF 70-200mm F4L IS USM and i DROPPED it from "Tze Cha" Table height. I'm 1.85m and its about hip length. It dropped because the waiter pushed the dish towards the lens and it dropped. -.-" I stunted and quickly picked it up to find cracks/spoilt in the lens so i can ask him to pay for it before he went off. :D The funny thing is that, Its still working like charm... I tried out the AF/MF IS On/Off, All perfectly fine ABIT scratch at the hood and zoom ring...

There was another time, i once held a EF 600mm f/4.0 L IS USM. After the airshow, taxi back to choa chu kang (Thats where i live) with my uncle to have lunch at 429 Coffee shop. Wonder if you guys went there to eat before... :D The 600mm was still mount on the camera. As Singapore weather is HOT, I open up the bag to let it have some cooling air, rather then stuck inside the bag and let it grow fungus... i open the bag with the hood reversed, face down. The next moment, a boy aprox. 3+, knocked on the standing lens... It falls ofcourse..
Because the lens cap is a 'pouch', nothing was scratches. My uncle picked it up this time and test it out. IS on/off working fine, AF/MF working fine too. LOL

The 70-200 and 600 does not belong to me, but my uncle...

But i personally think that lens are not that easy to crack...

Dropped my 1000D and kit lens from around 50cm before. Filter dented, but lens and body unscathed, and unaffected. Apparently, the Filter protects the lens very well.

my 1D + 85mm 1.8 (with hood) dropped from the top of a piano (about chin level) onto a wooden stage and "bounced" twice. no damage to lens/body when i picked it up for inspection, but there were two dents in the floor.

just last year, the same body dropped with a 24-70 2.8L attached from a dining tale onto a marble floor, the lens got damaged so badly that it was unusable (hood dented in, lens mount came loose, AF wiring broke, unable to zoom smoothly), but the body is still going strong.

Drop my camera before an it bounced off the steps and the camera and the lens broke off...the lens mount (of the lens) is still with the camera, while the rest of the lens came off.

Camera nothing happen. And Lens got replaced.

What camera and lens was that?

dropped my 550ex from an old railway down to the grass patch during an outdoor shoot last month. it was about 2-3 stories high. i wanted to cry... but to my amazement when i went down to pick it up, i put back the batteries in and it still worked fine!

now you can buy canon flashes and know that they are reliable! :D but i wont risk it a 2nd time.

dropped my ex580 or rather it slipped out...about hips level. fortunately, my large diffuser took the first impact on the road. and rolled or bounced a few times.. suffered a chip at the hotshoe and several scratches.... still working alright and doing what it supposed to do...so far.

My friend dropped his nikon 70-200 f2.8 from knee height onto the road. it was unusable during the wedding and paid over 1k to get it fixed.

Met someone who dropped his camera and lens in deep water. :bheart:
Camera and lens was in water for around 10mins.
Service centers for both camera and lens said it's not practical so save the gear. :(

I dropped my school's 550EX onto soft carpet flooring and the preflash red thingy...it dropped out. But i could fix it back again and its Fine!

A 1D2 and 16-35M2 (Canon replace the 16-35 for free :bsmilie:) service from Canon.

Why did they replace it for free? It was not their problem that you dropped it.
