Anyone got their NEX5n?

"Sony will offer this performance improvement to NEX-5N end users during the period of its limited warranty accompanying the product. Please call 888-868-7392 to arrange for this I'mprovement."

seems like not gonna be fix by f/w alone...
need to wait till new batch come then buy.

still struggling with buttons vs. touchscreen on the 5n.

sometimes buttons, sometimes touchscreen, not clear about how Sony applies its principles with respect to user interface.

hate it when I try to swipe to next pic but ends up enlarging it instead. also miss the direct function buttons to Av/Tv (coming from a DSLR).

how do you guys manage?

The touch screen is most useful for quick focusing. I use center for AF Area. But if my subject happens to be right or left of my frame, i simply tap screen on the subject and the AF will be on the subject. Makes framing/focusing very fast.

For PASM mode, the button in center of control wheel (soft key C as Sony calls it) is the mode key. So say you're at Av (Aperture Priority) and wants to switch to Tv, all you have to do is to press soft key c, and turn the control wheel by one click to S (Shutter Priority). So it's just one step more than traditional DSLR. I came from Canon DSLR, but find switching to Nex 5N easy and intuitive. In any case, most people have preferred mode, say Aperture Priority and seldom change it so don't really miss the lack of direct buttons.

Say you're at A mode in Nex 5N, just turn the control wheel to change aperture. If in S mode, just turn the control wheel to change shutter speed, so it's all quite intuitive. I usually use M mode. Press "down" on the control wheel toggles shutter speed and aperture.

thanks for that - you make it sound simple. guess i've got get my muscle memory re-working again. its been on canon since the EOS days so you can imagine :)

when reviewing pictures, is there a way to remove "touch to magnify picture option? funny thing is that i have the sony tx5 and in picture preview mode touching and flicking pictures on the screen is intuitive and you need to press a button to magnify. so two sony's and two very simipar but different interfaces.

I would like to ask proud owner of nex5n out there. As i understand, 5n doesnt come with built in flash. Do you miss the flash function which shooting with 5n? I used to own EP1 and quite often i hope that the built in flash was there. How do you guys overcome this limitation?

It is a pain, but generally, the 5N's high ISO capability is so good that you don't hardly need a flash anymore. I carry the small flash in my camera bag and screw it in if needed. You can mount it permanently there if you want as it folds flat to the top of the camera and the whole package is still quite compact. I also have Sony's larger bounce flash, which screws in and uses camera power. The bounce flash photos come out with very even lighting.

Most time I don't need it as I use primes and hi Iso is a strength of Sony. However 2 situations calls for flash for me, bright backlight (sun behind subject ) and night portraits+landscape which requires slow sync flash, when I need those, it's frustrating not having the flash.

Yes, do wait for the new batch as sources seem to suggest that "fix" will be applied to production going forward. For yr reading pleasure...

Can link us the page?

I donno wor. I read the news on some site. I at F1 haven check Sony site.

Sony has just released an update on their website which might be of interest to all NEX-5N users, who are annoyed with the *click* sounds the camera produces while recording. Sony will be upgrading for free all NEX-5N owners that are still under a valid warranty in order to reduce the annoying sound. It wasn’t exactly specified what was producing the strange noise.

I actually leave de flash screwed on. It's pretty small so doesn't affect me.

Is it a hardware "fix" or a firmware "flash fix"? If it's just a firmware "flash fix" i don't mind getting the current stock and flash it myself later. But if it is a hardware "fix" I rather wait for the revised production stock.
