Nice.. I think it will look even better on the nex 7.

Absolutely! but I needed a body now, so went for the NEX-5N. It is not that bad. Ergonomics probably not as good as the NEX-7, but hey, a NEX in the hand is worth "7?" in the factory? No? ;p

Besides, I think having a flexible EVF on my 5N is slightly better than having a fixed on the 7. Just a personal preference.

Anyone with the nex5n can feedback regarding the AF in low light/indoors? Is it that "bad" ?

i reckoned you visited another thread and came here to ask for confirmation. my take is, it is not that crappy until you cant get a focus. Its a tad slower than g3 ( thats only m43 I have) and a matter of tweaking the settings. But that doesnt mean its slow. Its just not as fast. ( split seconds difference ),

Personally, I noticed that if we turn on AF assist lamp, under dark conditions, it will revert to the big square to evaluate the scene for focus. I turned it off and put it on multi spot AF. With that setting, the 5n AF is quite fast. More over, if its dark , you can bump up the ISO , and make your focusing easier as well.

If you want purely blazing fast AF, then yes, the 5n may not suit your needs. If you are looking for an overall performer, especially in the high ISO region with higher dynamic range then maybe this can be one of your contender.

The ZM 50f2 is a super duper lens on NEX. May I know how much you paid for it?

I'm eyeing the ZM50f1.5. Its not as sharp on the sides wide open as the 50f2, but has more character/ better bokeh and since 50mm is 75mm EFL it would be a portrait lens. That one is about $1.6K

Thanks for the explanation. I'm looking at the dual lens kit which maybe costs me about S$1200?
Is it good enough for most application. Mostly use it for travel. A lot of reviews has been saying Sony doesn't release lens variety enough. What do you guys think? won't be using a converter for other mounts as I need the portability.

Steve Huff has been trumpeting the Oly Pen 3 with the 3 lenses ( E-P3, 12mm f/2 and 45 1.8. In chrome Cost – US$1900 )

The average p&S upgraders would find the kit lens adequate for their needs. Many is using the 5n as a digital back for their legacy MF lens. While the m4/3 can do this as well, the Aps-c sensor crop factor has some advantage here for those that are keen to preserve the focal length crop issue.

Currently, the NEX lens covers : 16mm 2.8 , 18-55mm , cz 24mm 1.8, 35mm 3.5 macro, 55-200mm , 18-200mm and the 50mm 1.8. Thats 7 native lens. I think for general use its enough. From wide to tele.

Alot of bros gotten a NEX5n deal at 1.1 if I am not wrong that comes with a free battery. You should ask the usual shops to get a better deal from RRP.

The portability issue is a personal preference thingy. The body of the nex is slimmer than the EP3, but due to flange distance and sensor size differences. The lenses are larger. Though large, the metal lens are quite light.
On a daily basis, I carry my 5n with 24mm 1.8 in my bag. Sometimes, I take the G3 with 45m 1.8 or 20m1.7. Both cameras are not pocket sizable. In Singapore, we dont wear coat as its not cold enough, so no coat/jacket pockets to put them. I still need a bag. And the bag to house the cameras are similar size too. The m4/3 has distinct size advantages if you carry more than 2 lens. The 45.18 is around thumb height and 50cent coin circumference. The 12mm F2 is around the same height. The size of the NEX lens are indeed much bigger than those 2 lens. Hope that helps.

And one thing you will realise is , you ask about 5n in this thread, you will get more positive response .

You ask for opinions, some will give you honest self experience from ownership of the camera. Sometimes, ownership may not mean he knows how to unlock the potential of the tool he is using. Some will give you experience from the few minutes of fiddling with the camera at Harvey Norman or electronics shops or borrow from friends. And the rare few will bash the camera from personal opinions, hearsay and reviews without actually using the camera. You ask about 5n in another forum thread, you may hear negative response. So who is right ? I think there is no right or wrong. Everyone has preference.

Thats why there is no such thing as the best camera, the best one is the one you feel most comfortable using.

Cheers

You mean dual kit lens for 1.1k ?

Just wondering how is the color as compared to Olympus EP3 or the Pana GX1?

I think more or less I'm leaning towards the nex5n but now also like no stocks hehe.

Cheers.

If your on a trip and you need to carry more than one lens I think the m43 system is much more convenient! Also, m43 has a broader range of native AF lenses and the AF is noticeable faster with new lenses. The NEX has the better IQ and is more suited for mounting legacy lenses because of it's larger sensor and the peaking focus assist.

There is a small bag for the NEX, which holds both lenses in the dual lens kit, so its really about the bag. It's not just larger sensor and peaking focus, M43 has a 2.0x crop factors so all your old lenses for APSC DSLR are "magnified" and pictures don't look the same. So NEX is far better for adapting old lenses. Don't also forget that the NEX lenses and body are very light, so there is very little diff with M43 in terms of weight. Weight is more important to me than size, since as someone mentioned, we don't have coats with big pockets.

Sorry for the noob question. Is the Nex 5N like the usual compact camera, which I can choose a lower resolution to take photos (e.g.10 megapixel).

Thanks for your advice.

sorry for the noob question. tried to google but cant find an answer.

Is it possible to have the option to take photo at a lower resolution with the 5n (i.e. 10 megapixel), just like the usual point & shoot camera?

Yes ! ...go to the photo quality selection menu and choose between Super Fine and Fine.
...Forget about anything with RAW ...you're not ready ! :bsmilie:

When will the dual lens nex5n be in?

Generally how is the IQ for the 16mm wide and the std zoom 18-55?

I read the 16mm need to take at F8 and above to get sharp image. Is it true?
