anyone knows how much is P5100 selling?

Found the below in this Nikon sub-forum price guide.

Nikon Coolpix 5100 - $575 (MS, Oct07 - valkyrie) free 2GB SD card and pouch

i came across review mention the focus is slow, and not idea to capture sport and children moving.. how about some indoor picture

Hi

Does using an external flash (SB series) on the P5100 help in reducing noise in indoor photos?

Sorry coz i wonder if it is a valid question, pardon me.

The answer is yes, because the external SB400 is much more powerful than the built in flash, you are able to set to low ISO (100 or 200) and with high shutter speed, that will give you good indoor photo.

Attached photo is taken with internal flash in a quite dim lighted restaurent when I was in US last week. I am surprise to see that the picture came out quite evenly exposed from the near person to the last person.

I own Nikon DSLRs, P&S cameras and both SB400 & SB800, realised that the P5000 deos not work with SB800, but very well matched with SB400.

After having this Nikon P5000, I really put the Fuji F40fd and Sony W80 aside.

just as long as your iso speed is kept low, there will not be a noise problem
indoor or outdoor.

so yes using a flash (internal or external) will help to bring down the ISO speed and thus lowering the noise.

Hi all,

Has anyone experienced bad focusing with the P5100 ?

Often I have gone to pre-focus a shot (button half down) and it has not locked..... removed finger and tried second time and ok.

This has happened quite often for me on average to good light.

It has been. . . . half press the button, let go, half press again, before a focus lock.

Comments anyone :dunno:

Erm...maybe the contrast of your scene is low? e.g. empty beach? or the sky? or plain color shirts etc?

Here's some pics I took in Paris with this cute little camera. Love the distortion control and BSS! :)

Hi HydroPop,

Nice photo's

Um, I do know what to focus upon (eg. not a blank white wall or a cloudless blue sky) :bsmilie:

I have a couple of cameras that have never given me such problems...... for example in the P&S ones ......

Fuji F810, S5700.

I have tried another P5100 at work and get the same problem.

Maybe the 2 cameras were from a bad batch, but I doubt it.

As much as I like the results from the camera when it works well and I much like the control available, I am sending it back to Nikon

Cheers :)

I just got the P5100. A few questions :

1) there is no battery indicator right? unless low battery, correct?
2) how long does the battery last? I know it depends on usage, but there is no indicator, so tough for me to gauge.

TIA.

Sorry to digress, but just bought P5100 for $565.00 cash at Lord's Lucky Plaza. Had free 2GB card, mini tripod, Nikon camera case, lenspen cleaner plus a bag (actually it's for a laptop).
Also bought SB-400 flash for $190.00 cash.
