anybody can offer some inside info? hehe...thx

the prices you get in IT show will 99% never be lower then those quoted at photographic supplies stores, but you will get freebies, alot of them and some you don't even use (or value is not even near to what you will save in terms of cash if purchased at photographic supplies stores).

i will choose photographic supplies stores hands down cos i know i will get better prices for sure.

canon sponsors event, like SYPC, Bowling competitions, a joint advert with 8DAYS, Supermodel.tv... they have their areas of advertising as well.

in fact, canon also advertises in 8DAYS alot with nikon... and they have a photomarathon.

they mainly see different approach in advertistments... but they get their message out.

Huh, SYPC, bowling??? Ok, Canon wins  :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

SYPC (Singapore Young Photographers' Conference)

Canon SuperSeries (A canon-sponsored bowling competition)

They also sponsor a few of our national teams (bowling namely)

I wished nikon sponsors some of this instead of more adverts...

the grass is always greener on the other side!

Totally, they would throw in a lousy tripod, a Calibrator which you probably wouldnt use, and a lousy Hard Disk Drive which probably wouldnt last, and an average or poor quality UV filter, learnt my lesson when i bought from the PC show my first dslr 2 years back

yea, finally someone agrees.

but for newbies, it'd be easier cos it comes with most major photographic accessories they'll need, so they won't need to fret over what to get and concentrate more money on the body or more glass.

the freebies only entices those who do not see beyond the real fact.

normally booths for such show are runned by a huge retailer like harvey norman, courts or audio house.. so prices are roughly similar to those at their stores just with slightly more freebies. IMHO

n they will claim those worth $200 or $300 of freebies...
if buy from shops without freebies will be $200-$300 cheaper...
actually IT show sells freebies n camera together...;)

Agreed.. What you paid for the package includes the cost of freebies thrown in even though you managed to a couple more. Price is firm but compromise can be made for originals (exchange with 3rd party stuff) or probably add a UV filter, etc..... Something like 2nd battery by 3rd party, cheapo UV filter, cleaning kit, tripod.

But it is a good place to get hands on and compare the models you have in mind.

One possible additional freebie from COMEX 2009 - H1N1 virus :bsmilie:

Man, that's one freebie we can all do without. see you guys on Friday. :bsmilie:

Besides selling at RRP and some freebies, don't forget the insanely amount of people there. :o

I'm thinking of getting my 1st DSLR at comex :embrass:
does anyone know how much a 500D will cost and
what freedies are being given currently (assuming if i just walk into any shop to buy now and not at comex )

Just save yourself the hassle and don't go to COMEX to get your camera. Haven't you read the entire thread?

Freebies should be a memory card at the very least. I buy my stuff from John 3:16, located at Funan Mall. Perhaps you can drop by and give them a visit. They offer very good service and prices are competitive.

I bought my D300s in Cathey photo and service is "Mo Teck Ting" (In cantonese: Fantastic)

of course...you're paying a premium for good service. :)

CP's pricing quite competitive in my opinion.
Bought some lenses and accessories from them.
The quotes they gave me are cheaper than MS and J316. :)

They are the only brand that has gigantic BUS adverts (I think).

Talking about bus ads, does Nikon produce a left-handed D90? I noticed the D90 ad at the back of buses show the model shooting left-handed.
