Any one thinking of getting a M9?

I can just hear the chairs falling over as mutliple clubsnappers all simultaneaously attempt to call Gope's Foto at the same time... perhaps followed by a mad cap dash ala the movie "The Rat Race" to Tanglin Shopping Centre.

Anyway to contribute to the thread, I admit shamelessly that I too want to get my paws on an M9.

There are only 4 dealers in Singapore that, according to Schmidt Marketing, have better chance of getting M9 shipment. They are Alan, Cathay, Gope's and Max. Yes, Gope's Foto is located in Tanglin SC.

Last Dec I first approached Cathay in Peninsula, salesman K refused to put me on waiting list, citing the super long queue.

I called Max at Centrepoint, but the person on the line must be busy serving tourists that he just said 'no stock' and hang up on me.

Then I went to Gope's, and was told in 2 weeks' time. 2 weeks later shipment delayed, so I went to Alan at Funan and Cathay at Marina in mid-Dec. Both were happy to take down my contact, although they told me not to expect anything before CNY.

Just 3 days later Alan called me that there was a black M9 available. I was in two minds, I actually prefer the grey one, but on the other hand, I was afraid if I gave it up I might have to wait till after CNY. But Alan helped me to decide by quoting me a very high price for bundling a 35 Summicron.

So I continued to wait, and just after the Christmas, Gope's called that 'my grey M9' had arrived. I went down on the very same day, grab a chrome 35 Summicron along with it, and the rest is history.

I did not place any deposit with the dealers, not because I did not want to, but because they did not dare to. I strongly recommend Gope's, they are a bunch of honest mature men.

I too went to Gope and a man with dark sunglasses quoted me 2k above list for the body only. Not sure if that was a 'normal asking price', but anyway they had none available.

Man this is getting ludicrous. I think I've decided to get an M8.2 instead when I get back end of this month. Those of you selling off your M8.2s on the buy sell forum may expect a call from me last week of Feb.
On another note I did try looking for an M9 at the authorised Leica dealer here in Dubai but nada. Just some lenses and binoculars but that's as far as it goes. Maybe I'll pay them another visit soon and try asking.

I cannot believe the markup that Lecia dealers are making. In NZ, M9 body is selling for 9.9K including GST. So, assuming some markup by the dealer, gosh, the Singapore dealers must be laughing all the way to the bank. On the other hand, willing buyer willing seller.

Some of the dealers in Germany are quoting very down to earth prices, after conversion & courier, comes out to about 10k SG.

well... this is singapore. just look at the way people ask for COV on resale HDBs and you will understand the mentality behind the way these dealers are marking up.

Hey guys, sorry for slightly OT, however since we are on the M9, what do you think of the Mac Book Air (highest spec), running Lightroom with M9's DNG files? I am really tired of lugging around a heavy laptop. I do need a big screen though for my eyes (age) and for AutoCAD. As I travel almost every week, its taking its toll. Any recommendations, comments, advice?
